User Reviews for Karma Yoga Studio

5 Star Rating: Highly Recommended

I was a volunteer here until September 2007 on Saturday mornings and I must say that it is still one of the best yoga studios around. The knowledge of Jesse and all of the teachers is incredible and every time I left a class, I felt as though I was walking straighter and taller, more flexible, and had learned a lot about keeping myself healthy. The cafe has many teas to choose from, the volunteer staff work their butts off, especially during busy shifts, ("Zara" included, who I have never seen be rude, and no, she didn't ask me to write this). Occasional over-confident, know-it-all, demanding clientele.

I try not to take yoga anymore when that indian girl is working at the front desk (zara?) however everyone else is super nice and makes the entire experience amazing. the studio itself is great love the atmosphere. it is very relaxing. there is a little tea shop that is great but none of those that work there seem to know anything about the teas however they do show you a pretty informative menu but just do not ask anyone there to tell you anything about the teas for they will not know. Jessee classes are amazing! recomend them highly

Pros: location, atmosphere

Cons: rude front desk (zara)

I recently moved here from one of the world's most diverse cities and had not been to such a wonderful place as Karma Yoga. As a transplant from California, I am at bliss having found such an amazing space. The decor is breath taking- better yet: deep breath inducing! Upon walking in, the uniqueness of the place is calming and centering. The facilities are immaculately clean and comfortable. The classess offered provide a variety of yoga suitable for most tastes. I am hooked with Jesse's Core Strength Yoga, an incredible workout that targets the most important support system for the entire body: the core. The class is challenging, anatomically enlightening and entertaining. I also love Lisa's Flow Yoga. The instruction is insightful, safe and accomodating to various fitness levels. I highly recommend checking out this space. Namaste...

Karma Yoga offers some of the best yoga classes around. The instruction is careful and knowledgeable. I too am very surprised that a user claims to have suffered an injury during a class in the studio. Try a class with Jesse, the owner, or Kim or perhaps another teacher, and you will understand that they are very well-informed about body mechanics and are always cautious about risk of injury if a pose is done incorrectly. The owner also carefully monitors other teachers to ensure a certain level of expertise. Jesse's classes have improved my quality of life immensely. This style of yoga is one of the healthiest things you can do - treat yourself to a class!

Karma is a serene, lovely space with clean studios and loads of props -- including mats, so you don't have to tote yours around all day! As with any busy studio, the class experience depends heavily on the instructor, but I've had only positive experiences with those with whom I've worked. Jesse, the owner, is particularly careful about safe yoga and proper alignment, and Kim and Barrett's classes are excellent as well. I was particuarly surprised to see one poster's comment about an injury sustained at a class at Karma because of the careful attention given to safe practice that I've experienced time and time again here. Their monthly membership packages are a great deal for those who work/learn/live in the Harvard Square area, particularly their student rates.

Pros: Location, convenience, variety of practice styles and class times

Cons: Drop-in rate a bit steep, no "class pack" options (only monthly memberships)

Outstanding studio with lots of personal attention. Some of the most clear instruction I have ever had in a yoga class.
