Worst example of rude staff that I have ever seen, anywhere. The attitude among employees and patrons at this popular spot made me appologize to my girlfriend and her friends for taking them there. Boston has many places that treat their customers well, so avoid Excelsior if you would like to enjoy your evening. On a side note, get ready to hear the words "We are accomodating _____" after asking any question.
Pros: Decent martinis, good wine selection.
Cons: Everything else

I have been to Excelsior up stairs over a dozen times and every meal was impeccable as well as the service. Last night i was with some friends on a Saturday night expecting some high end sophisticated professionals. WAS I WRONG! was filled with complete white, uneducated trash...guys with shaved heads who looked like they just got out of prison and lookin to start a fight...the service and staff were very sweet..but i def. will not come to the downstairs bar again on a weekend night!! quite sad! they were alll drinking bottled miller lite's..blah blah blah....i hope you guys see this review!
Pros: food,service,staff
Cons: downstairs bar/clientele

Excellent food. Romantic. A little expensive - especially if you add on some wine, but this expected and well worth it if you are looking on making your dinner a good experience.
Pros: Excellent food and service.
Cons: Too bad it's is pricey or else I would be here more often.

My family is used to eating at spectacular, dripping with expensiveness places...and this was one of them. Worth every penny, if you ask me. I went when my parents came to visit me at school, and we had a hell of a time. The entire establishment is so fun, the downstairs bar is pleasant and sleek and clean, great for people watching, and the elevator ride to the dining room lets you literally go striaght up through the wine cellar. Totally cool. The service and food was fantastic. That lobster pizza is no joke...try it. Love it. Our dinners were immaculate and so tasty. The restaurant was chill and quiet, very pleasant, and the sommelier was so friendly and helpful. Overall, one of the best in the city.
Pros: Have a special occasion dinner here, or just treat yourself to some luxury!
Cons: Not going to lie...it's expensive. But it is worth it!

I went there during restaurant week with a couple friends and was extremely impressed. Our server was friendly (albeit a bit too talkative at points) and the food was great. I would definitely go again.
Pros: Great glass elevator with visable wine storage
Cons: Probably pricey when its not restaurant week

We had dinner here last night. Great location, interesting decor. The food was really uneventful, not a treat. Caesar salad was fine, but not tasty or interesting, on par with what you would get at a mid level chain restaurant. Lobster corn bisque was really quite poor, you'd never guess it was lobster bisque. My wife's striped bass was good, but not terribly interesting or tasty. My duck was pretty good. Waitress was good and attentive. We paid by gift card which was a disaster, they had issues with their gift card providers system which had us waiting for 15 minutes. Bad stuff does happen, we know that, but this give good service a chance to shine in how they handle an unfortunate situation. You would expect a fine restaurant to make this seemless to the customer (examples they could have allowed us to leave while they figured out the issue and simply mailed us the remaining gift card, they could have offered us a drink or a desert while we waited twittling our thumbs). They finally let us leave while they figured how to debit the gift certificate for the gratuity. Just not a good takeaway.

The filet mignon was excellent, but the experience was ruined when the waitress POURED HOT COFFEE DOWN MY FRIENDS BACK! What's worse was how incredibly poorly management handled the situation. I will never return.

Had dinner here with two of my friends recently and it was absolutely spectacular. Our waitress was great, the food was absolutely delicious and in the perfect portions. The sauvignon blanc we had that night was absolutely amazing as well thanks to our waitress' recommendation. Definitely need to go back again soon!
Pros: food, service, location
Cons: nothing really

Whereas the upstairs dining room can feel a bit exclusive to outsiders, the downstair bar is welcoming (but still quite pricey). No matter what, you have to try the lobster pizza, it is just amazing.
