My wife and I may have visited them on a bad day...we went for lunch during the week and sat outside. They were very understaffed...we waited 20 mintues for our order to be taken after we were served iced tea. The wait staff was apologetic but clearly she had too many tables on which to wait. I was not served what I ordered. To add injury to insult, the greens were not fresh...the peapods on my wife's salad were moldy. The lettuce on mine was wilted and starting to decompose. Something cooked may be ok but don't count on getting fresh salad greens and be prepared to wait a long time to be waited on.

I had always heard great things about this place and after a long, exhausting night my fiance and I decided to go. We ordered margaritas but they just didn't do it for us...too sweet and no salt! The waitress took our order (she was very nice) of quesadillas and risotto. The quesadillas were good but the risotto was HORRIBLE!!! It was watery and the rice was way undercooked. As if this wasn't bad enough, as I'm eating this terrible risotto a critter (not allowed to say what type) starts crawling up the wall, threatening to belly-flop into my meal!!!! Now, as someone in the food industry, I understand that these things happen. I don't like them, but with all the animals out there seeking food and nourishment, I know that it's unrealistic to expect that other creatures will never seek out fine dining establishments. When we called the waitress over she was very apologetic and moved both us and the couple next to us to other tables and gave us dessert on the house. The manager (or someone in charge) came over an apologized as well. Too bad the dessert was really dry and bland!!!

Pros: very nice, caring staff

Cons: some items on menu are really not good

I have been here 3 or 4 times. My husband and I love that their wine list is only $10 above retail, and the location is very convenient. That said, the service is laughably bad. It seems that they only hire angry or ditsy staff. The last time we ordered club soda, and were brought water, when we asked for club soda, they brought us one cup and slammed it down on the table. They also brought us the wrong bottle of wine and the wrong pizza. This was surprising considering the waitress seemed to have written everything down. I much prefer their sister restaurant Laurel.

I've eaten at this restaurant twice. The first time I had the pork loin and the second time I ordered the BBQ pizza. Both times I received excellent service and the prices here are very affordable. I would recommend this place as a casual dining restaurant. You can also dine outside during the summer.

Pros: Good Food, Excellent Prices

Cons: None

It is hard to find a in expensive place to eat in the Back Bay/South End. Not only is this place inexpensive but it has outside seating and you can get a table on a Fri/Sat night. If you are looking for a break from all the super trendy spots in the area then Firefly is perfect. The people watching is the best. The menu is simple but decent and they have a wine list/drink menu.

Pros: Inexpensive, casual, outside seating

Cons: small menu, not the place for real foodies

I do love Firefly, and often stop there while waiting for a Back Bay train. Super drinks, great food, terrific pricing, and mega-friendly staff. The food portions can be immense! Never never disappointed. Ask Gil for a B-52 martini please! And the Afternoon People passing thru can be so friendly.

Pros: Drink quality, Food portions, Food quality

Cons: Parking

Four friends and I headed over to Firefly last minute on Saturday night. The service was a little spotty but we found our waiter and other staff there to be very chatty and friendly. The portions are big for the price. It's a good option for an inexpensive meal in the area.

Pros: inexpensive, big portions, friendly staff

Cons: spotty service, average taste

Although the food is pretty average at best, the prices are very low and the service is extremely friendly and attentive. It you stick to basics (burgers, pizza, salads), it's a good place to grab a bite when you just want a competent dining experience in the general area.

Great place to go to have a casual dinner in a nice, trendy place with wonderful food. Friend and I went and had the pumpkin ravioli and the Salmon dish. Both we amazing! On top of that, the drinks are wonderful and inexpensive. Try the Mangotini. It's great! Dinner, apps, drinks and entrees cost ~$40. Just a great weekend night dinner spot. Highly recommend it!

Pros: Food, Service

Cons: Parking

My husband and I have eaten at Firefly about 6 times over the past two years. We've always been very pleased with the quality of our food and the variety of selections, especially with most entrees priced under $15. Service has always been friendly and efficient. I particularly like eating outside, but the interior decor is fine, too. We like-y!

Pros: Food quality, Reasonable prices, Pleasant service

A prototypical neighborhood bistro with outdoor seating, where the Back Bay borders the South End.  See the full editorial review.
