Best Deli on East Coast
by danielutzu at Citysearch
This is by far the best Deli I've ever seen. Over the years I've tried everything on their menu - their tongue sandwich is unbelievable, worth going back every week! Michaels has the most tender meats I've ever tasted, and their prices are more than reasonable. I used to go to Katz's in New York (Kat's is twice as expensive and comes nowhere near Michaels), and I also tried several other places in Boston, including Zaftigs. They make their own russian dressing with real pickles, and they buy their meats fresh every day.
I think the major difference is that, although they give you a huge amount of meat by weight (they even sell half-sandwiches, one of which is enough unless you haven't eaten for three days), they put in the effort to slice it very, very thin - thinner than any other place I've seen, and that makes everything more tender and flavorful.
Michael the owner is usually there every day greeting customers. I hear they cater too, although I never tried that.
- Pros: Meats and Service
- Cons: rather small
Great Fresh Food!!
by wagemakerremax at Citysearch
Michael takes such pride in all of the food he prepares, and it shows. All of the ingredients are so fresh, and the quality is consistent from one dish to the next. Michael is "The Corned Beef King" and he deserves the title. I took my friend to eat there with me, and she told me that she hates corned beef. I made her try it and she loved it!! A can't miss! And Michael is such a great guy, he keeps you coming back time and time again. :)
Quality & value.

If you want a delicious deli sandwich with all the trimmings, pickles, potato salad, this is the place to go. Quick, friendly service but you're left alone to take your time & enjoy while you eat. The quality is excellent and it is very affordable. Go with an appetite or someone to share with. Very clean as well.
- Pros: Quality food
- Cons: None that I can think of.

THIS PLACE HAS SOME HOMEADE STUFF THAT WILL BLOW YUR MIND COMPARED TO OTHER SO CALLED DELIS.SOUPS,MEATS,DELI CASE STUFF IS NEW YORK STYLE GOOD ITS NOT REALLY A FULL SERVICE RESTARUANT BUT WORTH A VISIT OR TWO OR THREE. THEY HAVE GIVEN OUT SAMPLES AND HAVE BEEN VERY HELPFUL. OLD FASHIONED FLAVOR AND STYLE IS HARD TOO FIND. THIS PLACE IS A CLASSIC AND CONVENIENT.
- Pros: GOOD QUALITY, BETTER THAN OTHERS, KNOW THIER STUFF
- Cons: , NO BEER
Real Deal Deli

Why anyone would waste money and time on Zaftigs with Michael's all of 3 blocks away boggles my mind. If you're looking for a Jewish Deli, go to Michael's. If you're looking for a scene, go to Zaftigs.
- Pros: Top notch meats, fair prices, laid back environment
- Cons: too few seats
Bountiful sandwiches and top-notch ingredients make this Coolidge Corner's top New York-style deli.

The Scene
Located just off the busy intersection of Harvard and Beacon streets, this narrow deli is designed for takeout: the small dining area seats all of 14. But the students and other Coolidge Corner denizens who brave the tiny space are rewarded with a quiet spot to enjoy stuffed cabbage and other standard deli fare.
The Food
After one bite of the deli's knishes, you may want to hug the driver that delivers these and other items from the Big Apple every day. (Try the Reuben, filled with corned beef, sauerkraut and Swiss cheese.) Unlike New York's famous tourist-trap delis, prices are more than reasonable given the healthy portions: A carved turkey breast sandwich weighs over a half-pound and costs less than six bucks. Custom-baked rolls and sandwich breads are delicious. Complete your meal with comforting deli staples like dill-flavored red bliss potato salad, half sour pickles and Dr. Brown's sodas.
