I was relatively new to the city, and needed to find a new brazilian waxer for myself. After doing a ton of research I came across reviews for Jill at Joi Salon. She was amazing-she totally put me at ease, she really relaxes you and is very nice. It was the quickest and most painless brazilian I've ever had! After seeing her a bunch more times I decided to treat myself to a facial with Jill. Let me tell you-it was the best facial I've ever had. The mood was set instantly with candles, lighting, music and the most comfortable bed ever. We discussed my skin and what I was interested in doing, but beyond that she wasn't chatty which I loved because I just wanted to relax!! Her massage was the best, and I think I may have fallen asleep. When I floated out of there an hour later, my skin was clean, soft and gleaming! I highly recommend both Jill and Joi Salon, everyon seems really nice and helpful...

Jill is absoutely great- she has quick hands and uses hard wax, which is a lot less painful than European wax that most estheticians use. This is hands-down the most painless brazillian waxing experience I've ever experienced. The only caveat is that Joi's location in the North End is inconvenient to get to by public transportation, and it's more expensive ($55) than places like Newbury Day Spa ($44), which offers competitive quality. But if pain is your most important factor, go see Jill at Newbury Day Spa.
Pros: Painless Brazilian, Jill is very nice.
Cons: Inconvenient to get to Joi Salon and no parking, pricier than most

I tried this salon about a month ago after moving to the north end. I was delighted to find out that they are open on Sundays which is very convenient for me. I got several waxing services from Jill, who i HIGHLY recommend. She is so nice and puts you at instant ease, I will definitley be going back. My eyebrows have never looked better! I have also since gotten a manicure from Melissa, who I also highly recommend. She is very professional and friendly, I was impressed with her work. I thought that the prices were very reasonable and the services far beyone my expectations. I am now planning on getting my hair done there and am told the massages are to die for. Everyone in the salon seemed very friendly and the atmosphere was relaxed and not stuffy which is one thing i've experienced before and can ruin your entire experience. I have been raving to my friends who finally told me to shut up and write a review already!
Pros: Thumbs UP! Make sure to see Jill and Melissa!!!
Cons: No cons yet!

I made my first visit to Joi this week for a massage and had a wonderful experience. I was running late but the staff was very accomodating and didn't force me to cut my appointment short. The location was a little hard to find, but mostly because Google Maps showed me the wrong location for their address. Everything was great; the room, the atmosphere, and the service. I definitely recommend Joi!
Pros: Atmosphere, Friendly Staff
Cons: Not a central location

I have never walked out of a salon totally happy and satisfied with my hair. I can say today 12/10/06 is the first time I've been happy and satisfied with my hair. As I left my friend called me and asked me what I was doing. I told her I got a hair cut and I love it. Unfortunately, she just got her hair done (some where else NOT at Joi) and her experience was not as positive. I told her the next time she needs a cut she should give Joi Salon a try. I did and there are no regrets here! Besides the hair cut the staff was also "friendly" and "attentive". For example, my stylist Sarah she was funny and nice and gave me great advice on my hair and the receptionist I forget her name but she looks like Liv Tyler she was super nice as well. I thanked them for bring back the positive salon experience.
Pros: Friendly Staff, Clean, Great Service
Cons: No cons yet first visit. Only con I can think of is it's kind of hidden.

I have been going to Rhonda at Joi for a year and love her cuts and color recommendations. Every stylist I had ever been to tried to straighten my wavey hair and go against it's curl. Rhonda gave me a cut that let the curl out and in a very low key way recommended products that worked, I have been getting rave compliments ever since. Even my mother made a comment about not realizing how beautiful and curly my natural hair was. Very highly recommended.
Pros: Very friendly and helpful staff, nice ambiance

I have been going to Joi Salon for around 4 months now, and have always been very pleased. The blond color I just received is fantastic, and the cut is perfect. The stylists at Joi listens, and pays well attention to what you want, as well as what looks the best. Jopino is my stylist, and I can recommend him to anyone. I also receive wax treatments from Liz, and my eyebrows have never looked better. Even though this is a trendy salon and spa, all staff are friendly and makes you feel very comfortable.
Pros: results, staff, no sales pressure

Finally, after trying a lot of Newbury St. salons and walking out with a helmet head, I decided to try this salon close to my home. It was a great experience beginning to end. Jensy was my stylist - and he was great. Instead of ignoring my comments and giving the same overstyled, early 90's Jennifer Aniston 'do every other stylist in Boston likes to dish out - he gave me a sexy new cut that works with my hair texture and I can easily style myself. Also, instead of hard-selling me on products, like a lot of stylists in the Boston area, he simply explained what he was using and how it compared to some of the products I already owned. I decided to buy one of the items, but there was absolutely no pressure. The cut and style was $50. Great value. I'm definitely going back.
Pros: great location, Jensy's razor cuts, reasonable prices

I went to Joi Salon to get a facial and leg and brow wax. My appointment was with Liz, who turned out to be marvelous. Along with the rest of the staff Liz was professional and friendly. She worked quickly and took extra care to make sure I was comfortable and relaxed. The facilities were very clean and the procedures were seamless. I left with my face feeling rejuvenated and my eyebrows looked immaculate. I have already made plans to come back and highly recommend this place to my friends.
Pros: Liz Johnston, eyebrows, cleanliness

I was worried when I moved to Boston that I would never be able to replace my stylist at the Aveda salon I went to in Michigan. I chose Joi because it's a block away from my apartment, and after a year of stalling, I realized I was going to HAVE to take the plunge and get my hair cut. I loved it! The place was great; people were super nice and my hair cut was actually better than I could have ever expected. Jenny Miller (the girl that I saw) did exactly what I asked for, gave me great recommendations, and made the experience totally comfortable. I can't wait to go back to get it colored and cut again (and try one of their spa services).
Pros: Jenny Miller, Atmosphere, Service
