Super Soft Colored Hair - Best in Boston
by cutie83 at Citysearch
I've been a bottle blonde for a while now, and when I moved from California, it took me a while to find a hair colorist/stylist. After trying a few other salons on Newbury St, I finally found David Feener at Salon Marc Harris. David is somehow is able to make my completely processed hair feel touchably soft and silky. Most people can't believe that my hair is acutally colored, because it looks and feels so healthy and smooth. Even other hair colorists are impressed by how light my hair is and how great the texture is. If you are interested in changing your hair color (or maintaining your new color), see David Feener so that you can have soft, unprocessed-looking/feeling hair.
I'll never go anywhere else

I've been getting my hair cut and colored at Marc Harris for over a year now and I would never go anywhere else in Boston! Lisa is a whiz with the scissors...I always walk out feeling rejuvinated. The atmosphere is trandy, yet unpretentious...and always comfortable.
Fashion forward, engaged stylist...

I recently relocated to Boston from the midwest and found myself flying back to Chicago to have my hair done...I did my research and thought I would give The Marc Harris Salon a try and made an appointment with Genevieve. IF YOU ARE NEW TO BOSTON AND ARE LOOKING FOR AN AWESOME STYLIST, GO TO GENEVIEVE! I cannot begin to tell you what a great experience I had! Beautiful color and cut...long or short! Genevieve is great! Well worth the cost.
- Pros: Location, Staff
- Cons: none
Best hair color - David Feener
by abenson1 at Citysearch
I am a model in Boston and get my color done by David Feener. Often, at modeling gigs, people will ask me who did my hair and I'll tell them the name of the salon that styled my hair for the event - but what they really want to know is who did my hair color. I'm not sure how David does it, but someone he is able to get my hair blonde blonde blonde without bleaching it - my hair couldn't be any softer that it is. He's also the best there is at color corrections, and often tells me about clients who come in with bad color situations and how he totally fixes their hair. For top notch color, definitely trust your tresses to David Feener at Salon Marc Harris.
salons competing for wrong titles
by jennythebarber at Citysearch
Why is that hair salons that can't win their own catagory pretend to be barbershops to win a title that doesn't belong to them..... this a licenced hair salon not a licenced barbershop.....i wish hairdressers would stop pretending to be barbers...two different schooling techniques and licences ..... lets keep it real!
WARNING - terrible place - especially don't go to Janet Warner!
by Bummedoutbride at Citysearch
Please do not book here! I booked in to have my wedding party's hair done at this salon with the stylist Janet Warner, over three months before my wedding. I paid $300 for a trial and put a 50% deposit down for the wedding. Less than 3 weeks before the wedding, the salon called and said Janet had to cancel, because she had other plans. Three weeks before a wedding is not enough time to find someone else! And only after fighting with them and threatening a law suit, did they finally repay PART of the money, but not all of it! This salon and Janet Warner are completely unprofessional and unethical and terrible! Please don't make the same mistake I did!!!! If I could give this zero stars I would!
- Cons: unprofessional and unethical
Great cuts!
by Smallysh at Citysearch
I loved the cut I got there! Especially as I wasn't sure in the beginning, you know how it can be: you have a general idea, but need a specialist to tell you how it can be done to become you. Rogue is that person! Got lots of advices too. Will definitely come there again. Been there at 12 pm, nice and quiet.
- Pros: Great stylist (Rogue)
- Cons: Never got the coffee I asked for... But it's a hair salon, right?
Best Salon!

I went here for the first time last week and have finally found "the one!" I moved to Boston a little over a year ago from the west coast and have had the hardest time finding a salon that really caters to you and is up to date with the newest hair styles and techniques. I went to Genevive for a cut, color and highlights and it turned out perfectly. I also asked for advice on shampoos and conditioners and I did not feel pressured to buy products (I did anyway) and that was a refreshing approach.
I love the massage shampoo chairs and the staff is very nice. The prices are reasonable (check out the website) considering it is on Newbury and the stylist there are very good! When I made an appt, they were up front about the costs of my services and I knew exactly what I could expect.
Your long hair is safe with Genevieve!
by cristinaf at Citysearch
Yesterday was my first visit to the salon, and I saw Genevieve. I was first pleased to enter a salon that was clean, trendy, and upbeat, but not at all pretentious for such a classy Newbury street salon. I was even more pleased to meet Gevevieve, my sweet, understandng, and talented hairstylist. She listened to everything I wanted, and gave me a beautiful color that was just what I asked for: a medium brown color with warm highlights. This trip was a big one for me in that I was to cut my middle-of-the back long hair a bit and get bags!! (longer swept-to-the side bangs). Gevevieve totally recognized my slight apprehension and walked me through everything. She also kept my long hair just where I wanted it: only an inch less than where it was when I walked into the salon. I definitely reccommend both Genevieve and the salon because of my great experience. I've already received a dozen compliments, and it's only been 2 days! Trust this place it you want to make a hair change in your life--it's a bit pricey, but you'll be so happy with the results.
Long Hair is Safe Here
by jlf24 at Citysearch
I went today to see Lauren. I was nervous, because I have waist-length boring hair , which I have no inclination to change, and the past few years I have been to 'long hair specialists' in NYC. I also survived a number of hair nightmares between ages 10-17, so I know what I do and don't want, but am not too good at withstanding pressure. I've also been to numerous fancy salons.
Lauren was v. assuring and did not pressure me at all: she must have sensed that I had no desire for layers, etc etc. She cut very little of my hair, just as she said she would, and she did a great job: blunt at the back, just what I asked for. She took her time and she was kind and thoughtful. I talked over colour with her, too, and she was good at convincing me to to do this at a future point.
No sales pressure, and the salon was not intimidating at all, as I feared it might be (I'm not a chic person, even though I usually pay the big bucks to be sure my hair is preserved properly). Lauren was kind and trustworthy, someone I would recommend to people with long hair who value their length! I looked around for a bit before settling here, and I'm glad I did. I'll go back and feel assured when I do. By the bye, the price was quite reasonable: $55 plus tip! In NYC, I never paid less than $100 for a trim, so this is a real find.
Thank you Lauren: for listening to me, keeping my hair, giving me a nice trim and , best of all, a hairdresser in Boston I can trust.
- Pros: Good prices, kind and trustworthy, unpretentious, talent
- Cons: I didn't park there, and wouldn't. It's Newbury St. Take the T ! Otherwise, none.
