If you enjoy being served by rude waitresses, having margaritas with no alcohol and overcrowded places, then that's the place for you.

Went there last week, the waitress was extremely rude, the place very crowded, although this wasn't the biggest problem, the food average and what made me angry the most, they felt free to charge my card 2 dollars more than what the bill was...

Absolutely not recommended..

Sunset has some absurd amount of beers on tap and plenty other drinks, making it a great place to go with friends to hang out on a night off. It can get crowded on Thursday - Saturday nights, but other than that there almost never is a wait.

As for vegetarians, try the veggie burger. If you eat cheese, get it on it. Is the largest, most filling veggie burger I have ever had, and it doesn't feel like a mush of random vegetables. The spinach and artichoke dip is also a guaranteed hit.

You have to get the nachos. But expect to share with the group and still feel as full as you can fathom. They've also got the best beer selection for miles, as well as some top-notch ciders. I've had the burgers and they're not my favorite, but they're still pretty good. The servers are very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The only downfall is that it's always crowded with BU dudes acting stupid. Maybe they're not acting. Still, the food and beer is fantastic if you have the good fortune of being seated far enough from the men's lacrosse team.

  • Pros: Apps, beer, cider, service
  • Cons: yeah dudes, parking in allston

my wife and i went to sunset cantina last week and we had a great time! the food was decent and i enjoyed the extensive beer list. the service was amazing!! the young lady that waited on us was very friendly and helped me pick out a new and tasty beer each time i ordered! although the restaraunt was kind of loud it seemed like everyone was having a great time, all in all a very good experience and i would highly reccomend it!

  • Pros: friendly staff, great beers
  • Cons: pretty loud, not a lot of parking

The Scene
The management behind Allston's popular Sunset Grill and Big City smartly chose to expand its empire to this location, along a busy, student-populated stretch of Commonwealth Avenue. A suitably young crowd fills the expansive dining room to nosh on huge plates of appetizers while watching sporting events or listening to the contemporary jukebox. The small bar takes advantage of its full liquor license (something the Sunset Grill doesn't possess) by serving up a wicked margarita menu and a selection of more than 40 tequilas.

The Food
The Cantina's eclectic, epic menu (more than 150 items) contains just about every appetizer ever made (raspberry mako shark sticks, shrimp-boursin skins) and even more sandwiches. Across the board, quality is above-average, portions are huge and prices are student-friendly. Beyond juicy "steam beer burgers," there are colorful interpretations of popular barbecue and Mexican dishes like hefty "Brontosaurus" beef ribs and sizzling Jambalaya fajitas.

Berr list is great, margaritas are decent, nachos are awesome and some of the sandwiches are pretty good. This restaurant has literally the worst service I have ever received anywhere in my entire life. We go back knowing it will be horrible and expecting it, only because we love the nachos. Service at Sunset Grill and Tap, up the street, is better has a bigger beer list and serves the same food plus pizza.

  • Pros: nachos, beer selection
  • Cons: service is terrible

The food in this place is disgusting.

The manager Saturday afternoons is incompetent.

I went there on a Saturday afternoon.

My order included a spinach / artichoke appetizer - I didn't think that they couldn't ruin something as simple as that.

What came to my table was a disgusting looking plate of burnt chips and cheese that looked like it was melted a day ago.

I complained to the waitress - who was very nice - and she sent the manager to my table.

The manager was an idiot.

She wanted to argue with me about the appetizer.

I'm not sure that she even looked at what was served to me.

I got out of there as fast as I could.

I will never step in there again and I will make sure that none of my friends ever go there.

  • Pros: it is far enough from my place that I will seldom have to see it again
  • Cons: it exists

We went to Sunset Cantina for the first time on a busy Friday night and only had a 20 minute wait, though it ended up being spent in the crowded bar - be ready to jockey for position to get a drink while waiting. They have an extensive tequila list and some different margaritas, but I have to say that you'd be hard pressed to find one that is better than their more "mainstream" margaritas. We started off with nachos with chili - the nachos were great, and the chili was a little sweeter than I was anticipating, but still good. Unfortunately, the chili was at the BOTTOM of the plate, so it took a while to get to it. For the main course, the jambalya fajitas were great - they have some of the best fajita spices and sauce I've ever had. The ranchero steak enchilada was good, but a little more flavor would have been appreciated, as would have veggies that had been cooked a bit more. It is a fun place with good margaritas, some different variations on it, a big menu and lots of fun.

  • Pros: Good value, good tequila and margaritas, great apps
  • Cons: Crowded, can't beat a classic margarita

I didn't know a party of 4 automatically ended up with 18% gratuity on the tab??

I thought its always a party of 6 and over?? I am never cheap on tips, I just thought that was unnecessary.. and rude.
