Big-name R&B acts, lowdown dirty blues and great local bands draw crowds in this wide-open, high-ceilinged bar.

The Scene
Most people know and love Harpers Ferry for the annual Blues Festival that brings in the likes of Bo Diddley, Luther "Guitar Jr." Johnson, Matt "Guitar" Murphy and Monster Mike Welch. Or they live for the local Battle of the Bands, as well they should. But Harpers is more than that. It offers good cheap beer, pool tables (for those Tuesday night nine-ball tourneys), dart boards, video games, foosball and generous space both around the huge bar and down the sides of the exposed brick walls.

The Draw
Count on quality sound, and plenty of it. It's loud, it's clear, it's live seven nights a week (generally starting around 9:30pm) and it's usually packed. The cover varies wildly: Pay $2 or $3 to check out the local, college-oriented bands, $15 when the BluesFest hits in February.

Nice live music

by adityapandit at Citysearch

I attended a pink floyd cover band in the flesh and the music was awesome. Drinks are affordable and the place is more for the music than for the drinks and food.

  • Pros: Great Live Music
  • Cons: No comfy seating

Love Harper's

by melks16 at Citysearch

Harpers is an aweosme place that has been a stable of the BU Area for over 20 years. Great atmosphere and not looking to rip off anyone. Sublime and dead cover bands were awesome.

Unexpected

by bledsoe666 at Citysearch

Being in my 30's, I worried that this dive-ish club/bar would not be my cup of tea, as it is in the prime BU/BC student area, but I was wrong. While the decor is nothing to get excited about, the room is spacious, with a nice long bar to sit at and enjoy the music. The drinks are relatively cheap compared to other places. My only complaint would be the amount of cigarette smoke that sometimes is present, but hopefully Brighton jumps on the no-smoking train soon and that disappears.

  • Pros: Spacious, Cheap live music
  • Cons: smokey, ambiance

Great place to hang out

by abaddon at Citysearch

Harpers Ferry is a great place to hang out. They get a ton of great bands, many up-and-coming ones. They have resonably priced drinks, tons of space, pool tables, and usually a decent sized crowd. Harpers is one of our default places to go.

  • Pros: Chill crowd, Large Place, Great Music
