nice, but not that nice

by johnnydlaw at Citysearch

everything we read suggested that this was one of boston's finest. we weren't impressed. its greatest strength is its location; newbury street and the prudential tower (which is a must) sit just around the corner. the hotel and its ammenities were simple and practical, but hardly luxorious. the continental breakfast was pathetic for one of boston's finest. in addition, we knew what we were getting ourselves into when we booked a boutique hotel, but be aware: the rooms are small.

we did have a nasty little problem with our room; fortunately for us, however, the staff stepped up to the plate and resolved the problem. if location and status are your thing, then this is the place. if comfort and relaxtion are what you're looking for, go with the corporate options, they know what they're doing. NO KIDS!

Great location and cozy touches distinguish this Boylston boutique hotel.

The Scene
Originally built in the late 1800s as a private residence, this smallish hotel offers simple rooms in a can't-be-beat location. Guests are just steps from Newbury Street, the Prudential and Copley Place shopping centers and the Hynes Convention Center, while the Copley T stop is just a minute down the street. Casual, friendly hotel staff patrols the second-floor lobby, which looks out onto Boylston Street and has an Ikea-like feel.

The Details
The Charlesmark was constructed with an eye toward savvy, experienced travelers. The 33 intimate rooms include indulgent touches, such as stereo systems with compact-disc carousels, 25-inch televisions with VCRs, cordless telephones, voice mail and data ports, free direct music and satellite movie service, and a VHS and CD library. There's also a free continental breakfast buffet.

Cozy and efficient

by jhk0906 at Citysearch

Tiny rooms, not so great views, no gym/spa... but are you going to have time to do this anyway?! With such a great location, you're out all the time and when you come back to this cute, room with it's modern design and surround sound stereo....it feels great! Complimentary continental breakfast, great staff, and a bar on the ground floor that is almost complete (call ahead to see if they are operating). A must see!

  • Pros: location in back bay, great price, updated rooms
  • Cons: little parking, r u tall? bed is sml, little ammenities

Pehaps the most educated staff and owners when it comes down to tourism and about the great city of Boston as well as the suroundings of New England. I must say just it's a rewarding experience and I highly recomend the Charlesmark Hote with unique class...

what a great hotel!

by mjanep at Citysearch

I found the Charlesmark by searching on location - right by the John Hancock Tower, and it definitely had the best prices. When I got there I was delighted to find about the most attractively fitted out hotel room Id ever stayed in - from the alarm clock that can turn on "ocean sounds" or "rain" to the beautiful tiling in the bathroom. A computer is available for the use of guests, a nice touch though the rooms are fully pc ready.

It is a great place to stay, and any time I return to Boston, I would stay there again without looking further.

  • Pros: location, inexpensive, comfortable
