Great Atmosphere, Friendly Service, BUT Awful Food!

While visiting from California, we went to Cheers because my girlfriend wanted to see both locations. We ate at the Quincy Market/Faneuil Hall location and the food was just awful. The burger I got was the worst I can remember having in a long time. She got potato skins that were bland and had about 3 bits of bacon on them and a salad that should have been called a soup because it had so much dressing in it. Even the Coke was flat!

Overall, this was a disappointing experience. If you want to see Cheers, just get a beer and a T-shirt and then go to one of the many eateries in Quincy Market for food that will be far more satisfying.

Welcome to Cheers!

Cheers in Quincy Market is a nice place to eat. It's not the best place if you're looking for a fancy, formal meal, but its wonderful for a casual lunch or dinner with good food and a relaxed atmosphere. There are also several tv's to watch when sporting events are going on.

• Pros: Good food in a friendly atmosphere.
• Cons: A little pricey and service can sometimes be slow.

pretty bad service, ok food

I live in Allston and was visiting a friend who just moved to boston. My boyfriend and I wanted to take him somewhere touristy and he went on some tour which gave him 15% of a meal at Cheers so we decided to go there. First of all, it seemed like everyone but our waitress came by to tell us that she would be there soon to take our order. It was a wednesday night, and only 4 other tables were full. Another waitress was actually nice enough to get us drinks. When our waistress finally did come, she promptly demanded rudely "what do you want to eat?". Then when I asked her if she could tell me if the clams were whole belly or just strips, she stared at me blankly and said "No, I don't know" without consulting the cook or anyone else. So I ordered the swordfish. She came by only to give us our meal and to see if we were going to order more beer to fatten up our check. We were so hungry by that time we just wolfed everything down but you can be sure we will not ever be coming here ever again. The food was mediocre at best, which was worsened by the fact that our waitress was a complete idiot.

For tourists, an essential stop; for locals, another Quincy Market tourist trap.

The Scene
Since opening in 2001, this shrine to the beloved NBC program "Cheers" has been drawing tourists away from the original Beacon Hill location; with its replica bar and museum, there's more to see here. Thanks to reasonable prices and expansive seating, this is one of the more comfortable dining-drinking options in the Quincy Market area. Friendly servers are pleased to snap a photo for the folks back home.

The Food
Standard American fare dominates the lengthy menu, with a slight bent toward local favorites (baked scrod, baked beans). While there are steaks and salads available, most patrons smartly opt for simpler fare like the hearty Turkey Gobbler sandwich (roasted turkey with walnut stuffing and cranberry sauce) or the gargantuan Norm burger (a pound of beef topped with Muenster cheese, mushrooms and onion rings). Those diners with room left over should opt for an inviting slice of--surprise--Boston Cream pie.

Don't waste your calories....or your money

What a tourist trap! I did not enjoy Cheers at all. The service was acceptable, but not exceptional. The food was mediocre at best (and my party tried about 5 items). The prices are ridiculous for simple burger & sandwiches. If I spend $10 on a burger, it better be darn good. Unfortunately, most fast food burgers I've had are much better.

Do yourself a favor and try something else.

Good for those who love the TV show

I went recently with a visiting friend, and it was very nice. She was thrilled because of the TV show, (later we went up to the hill to see the original Bull & Finch). It looks like the same menu for both venues. A little corny with all the character names from the TV show, but generally decent pub/bar food and a little pricey for what it is, except it's Quincy Market so that's to be expected. Service was okay, my friend asked for our server to reheat her food and the request was done quickly enough. The replica of the tv set downstairs is cute, well done, and worth a visit for out of towners.

• Pros: Nice TV set replica, Nice patio area, Good menu variety
• Cons: Tourists, Pricey for what it is

better than Beacon Hill

I was expecting the same touristy crap as the Beacon Hill place, but I was pleasantly surprised to find a alot of locals at this location. this is a great after work place and the food is pretty good. try the clam chowder, maybe some buffalo wings. Everything on the menu is good. And remember your ID. They don't fool around.

MA drivers licenses ONLY!!!

Make sure you have a valid MA drivers license before coming here...After coming here several times w/o any problems, the guy at the door tonight told my girlfriend (who's 26 and has a MA state ID, but no DL) that they could NOT accept her state ID, that a valid MA drivers license is the only valid ID they accept. We found this to be preposterous b/c since she turned 21 in 1997, my girlfriend has never had any problems getting into any bar/club in Boston w/ her state ID. This was only exacerbated by the fact that we have been here several other times for drinks where they've accepted her state ID. Needless to say, we will NEVER go back here again and will tell everyone we know to stay away from Cheers.
