Lavishly appointed with rich tapestries, heavy drapes, bejeweled chandeliers and filigreed hammered brass, Tangierino oozes both opulence and decadence. It’s not just romantic--it’s downright sensual! Despite the division into old world and new world, the menu actually fuses New England foodie culture with Moroccan cuisine throughout. Plates exhibit sophisticated towering layers and swirls of sauce. But the specialties are hearty and familiar: fluffy couscous--try the seven vegetable--is naturally featured. As are the tangine dishes--so named for a clay cooking vessel that’s used for tender meats and, surprisingly, salmon, too.

I really wanted to like this restaurant. I had heard SO much about it, and good Moroccan in a funky atmosphere is not exactly easy to find in Boston. But our experience last night left our party strangely dissatisfied and wondering what was up with this place. Valet service was friendly and attentive, but it all left off at the door. Although we had informed the restaurant we were bringing a birthday cake, there was a lot of confusion at the front desk -- the hostess was flustered and clearly put out that we asked them to deal with a cake. Not sure what the big deal was. Other restaurants do it all the time -- much more graciously and without the exorbitant $3 per slice cutting charge. After placing our cocktail order, we had an inexcusably long wait before receiving our drinks. The menu itself is well-varied and provided something for everyone. An appetizer of Sahara Shrimp was tasty enough but failed to deliver on the proffered spice. My husband ordered the Couscous Royal, which he enjoyed but thought the couscous itself was a bit dry. A half hour later, when we were nearly finished, the waiter arrived with the sauce for the couscous. We remarked that it was a bit too late, but he offered no real apology. l had the Crisp Lemon Chicken Tagine, which was delicious, but not crisp. Oddly, it comes with pommes frites, which were only average, and seemed ill-suited to the dish. But the strangest part of the evening came immediately after the cake, when the manager appeared, bill in hand, and said "I understand that you would like the bill now." In fact, we had not requested it. We did ask to move on to the hookah bar, but were abruptly informed it was completely full for the evening. The waiter did not offer tea or coffee, but brought the bill again, and at that point we decided just to leave. It all felt uncomfortable and disappointing. The atmosphere is great and the food is fine, but they need to up their overall game. In this economy, there is no excuse.

Food was okay, had better. Valet was really nice! Also disappointment in mgmt, for additional charges on bill. Went for a friends bday (brought our own cake which we cut ourselves) got charged "CUTTING FEE" of $40. $3 per person plus tax & 18% gratuity. We were NEVER informed and we've been to higher class restaurant than this and was NEVER charged a fee on a cake we purchased (cake cost the same as the cutting fee). It's unbelievable! Also, we would of missed the charge since it was in the middle of the bill and our bill was LONG!! That put a DAMPER on the night and ruined the mood. MAKE SURE TO DOUBLE CHECK YOUR BILL FOR ANY ADDITIONAL CHARGES BEFORE YOU PAY

Located in the underbelly of Tangierino, this Moroccan-tinged plush lounge offers hookah, cigar lockers and a mahogany Champagne bar.

We went to Tangierino on Halloween night 08, got there around 6:30pm. When we entered and asked the hostess for a table of two, she asked if we had reservations. We said no, but we called around 12:30 and nobody answered. Her response was, (in a condescending attitude) "Did you leave a message?" No, we did not because we figured it was Halloween night and it would not be that busy. Her reply was "Well it is a Saturday night" so my wife and I thought it was appropriate to correct her and remind her that it was a Friday night. She said as she looked at her computer screen, "I'll see what I can do".

My wife and I looked at each other then around the dining room, I must tell you that there was not another person in this restaurant. NOBODY!

We were seated, and we had the feeling that we just had one of the worst experiences. We were looking forward to a very romantic evening, and enjoy some delicious food. We felt horrible, I asked my wife "are you sure you want to do this before we spend $150 or more"? She did not answer.

We then got up to leave and the nice manager approached us to see why we were leaving. We pointed out that the hostess was very rude and ruined our evening. He was genuinely respectful and apologetic, and asked us to return. We said we won?t because the moment was lost, all because of the Hostess. He again apologized and said he would address the situation immediately.

Take a hint, first impressions ARE everything".

We went to the North End and had a wonderful evening.

We may try to go again, but Tangierino is out of our way and it took an effort to get there. This was our experience.

We went there last night for my husband's birthday. The food, ambience and drinks were excellent. I asked for a specific table, which I was given. Since, i'm a vegetarian, i'm ok with eating so so veggie options at restaurants, but I was very suprised to find excellent veggie options. The harira was excellent, as well as the salad and cous cous. We will definitely be going back!

Last Friday I had friends in town from Spain. I called and made reservations for 4. When we arrived for dinner, they had no record of our reservation. The hostess then told us to have a drink in the lounge and they would then seat us. It took over an hour for us to get a table. When we finally did eat - the food was good, but why make reservations if you still have to wait a long time??

  • Pros: Chicken B'Stila
  • Cons: Service, Lost Reservation
