Great views, hiking, biking and fishing close to the city.

The View
This spread is billed as the highest coastal range in the eastern United States. It isn't exactly the Himalayas, but the view from Great Blue Hill at 635 feet (a sedate half-hour's hike), is breathtaking. Climbers can practically count the windows on the Hancock Tower and on a clear day, spy Mount Monadnock, 70 miles away.

The Experience
Blue Hills Reservation offers 6,500 acres of woods, meadows and ponds with more than 200 miles of trails for hiking, riding and nature study. About one-third of the reservation is open to mountain bikers. Athletic types climb and descend for hours, tackling the rocky ascent to Buck Hill (just above Houghton Pond) as well as a milder climb up the paved Summit Road, which crests Great Blue Hill. More experienced mountain bikers might want to test their mettle descending Coon Hollow Path.

Convienent Nature

by mrbeantown

What a GREAT spot!!! This place can be your backyard wonder. It gives you a taste of Northern New England without the commute. Only minor set backs are the forest grooming & trash upkeep near the parking lots. But, this is a vast place where you can enjoy seclution and mother nature.

  • Pros: Range of Trails
  • Cons: Upkeep
