Moving and medal-winning remembrance of World War II concentration camp victims.

by Contributor at Citysearch

Overview
The setting for the Holocaust Memorial seems odd at best--located amid the commercial chaos of Faneuil Hall--but it provides a reflective break from the pace of its surroundings and is well-worth the visit.

The Experience
The memorial consists of six 56-foot-tall glass towers (representing the six death camps--Auschwitz-Birkenau, Belzec, Chelmno, Majenek, Sobibor and Treblinka), each engraved with one million prisoners' identification numbers. At the base of each tower, pits covered by grates emit blasts of steam. If you look up into the heart of the towers, the repetition and sheer volume of numbers is staggering. Visitors often leave flowers and pebbles behind to honor the memory of the six million Jews killed.

Words can not describe the holocaust memorial. It is just such a wonderful tribute to so many innocent people that lost their lives. Everytime I go I remember my how important religion and culture is, and it makes me proud to be who I am.
