I live in the area and this is a hot summer night favorite haunt. Standing in line is part of the experience. You change your mind about what to have constantly. It's true that there's no formal roped off lines but that's part of the fun too. If its really crowded, when you first walk up study the lines for a minute. There are six windows but usually only four or possibly five lines. At least one line is taking the middle of the road and playing two windows. That's the line you want. Some windows are cleared faster depending on how much prep time is required for something like a frappe versus a small cone. The quality of the ice cream is sinful. It's quadruple by-pass highway which makes it SOO delicious. The creaminess floods your mouth and your eyes look like you've been tranquilized as all conversation stops. The ice cream is so good, as soon as you have it everyone stops talking and is chowin' down. A small here is a large in most restaurants, and about the size of a medium at Friendly's. The medium is the size of a large at Friendly's, and the large is a pint or more depending on whether you have it topped with whipped cream or not. My personal weakness is the coffee heath bar crunch hot fudge sundae with whipped cream and nuts. A small one of these is PLENTY. No matter what you get, it's worth the wait no matter how long it is. I will admit that standing in line on the wrong night with shorts on can REALLY keep you dancing. This place is an old fashioned ice cream shop with hand made ice cream, hand written signs on paper plates, slide UP windows, friendly smiles from cute girls, and the same counter and layout that was there 40 years ago. That's what makes it great. Dairy Queen has drive-thru if you don't like lines. Go up Rt114 and look for black and white cow and calf sign opposite Diamond Hill just before 121. Thanks for being there ICM. From a faithful fan and confirmed coffee heath crunch man. Spanky
Pros: You're there for the ice cream and they delivery every single time.
Cons: Can be buggy on humid or rainy nights.

I have lived in the area for close to 3 years now, and have visited the ICM a half dozen times. Although the ice cream is good, I feel that the wait and the cost for ice cream here is poor. There is always a long wait on any evening, and what line you are waiting in can at times be confusing. It costs about $6.00 for my husband and I to get two small cones. Right down the road is a small antique store called Pentimento's. In addition to selling interesting artifacts, one can visit their vintage ice cream shop. Their ice cream is delicious and much cheaper than the ICM. If you live in North Cumberland, I would stop by Pentimento's for a much more enjoyable ice cream experience!
