Editorial Review for Kennywood Park – by Bob Braughler
Overview
In an era when sterile mega-parks dominate, Kennywood remains a throwback to a simpler time. Clean and friendly, the park delights with charming, old-fashioned buildings and lush plantings. And while it could probably rake in a lot more cash by requiring visitors to buy park food, it still maintains a large number of picnic pavilions that are available for everyone to use--from families to large corporate functions.
The Experience
With five major coasters, "little" Kennywood is a major name in the minds of coaster enthusiasts. The Thunderbolt's first and last dips are intense, as are the major lateral G-force-inducing bends. The Jack Rabbit's unique double-dip gives riders an incredible feeling of hang time. The park's only steel coaster, Phantom's Revenge, zips thrill-seekers around at 82 mph. Hot days are made cooler by the Log Jammer, Raging Rapids and Pittsburgh Plunge.

I had never even heard of Kennywood until about a week ago when my boyfriend told me that we're going spend the weekend in PA going to Hershey Park and then Kennywood. We're from the Detroit area, so I wasn't sure if the drive would be entirely worth it. Although Kennywood is small, it has a lot of charm. I would recommend this place to anyone (and I probably will!). I was pleasantly surprised at how smoothly the roller coasters run and how thrilling they are to ride. My favorite would have to be the Thunderbolt. Also, Noah's Arc is a MUST. Its the most fun I've ever had in a fun house type setting. The people who run the park are very nice, and efficient. The rides also load relatively fast- even if the line LOOKS long, it generally wasn't a very long wait. Oh, and don't leave before trying the bacon cheddar fries from the potato patch!!!!!
Pros: Fun rides, good food, clean restrooms, affordable, lots of shade
Cons: I can't think of any

This is a place that you simply MUST go to. Even though Cedar Point or Six Flags might have bigger, faster rollercoasters and more rides, Kennywood somehow captures your heart by some unknown force. I have been going my whole life, and i've seen the park grow and change, but still keep that family feeling alive. They have 3 wooden rollercoasters that are historic landmarks, which are Jackrabbit, Racer, and Thunderbolt. The Racer is the only single tracked racing coaster in America, and all of these coasters have been standing for at least 40 years or more. Other rides have historic backgrounds too. "Auto Race", is the only ride left of it's kind, and the Kennywood Railroad offers a tour of Kennywood through the years. But while maintaining that historic, family feeling, they also have new age rides that can thrill all types of thrill seekers. The Phantom's Revenge, boasts a 160 foot tall first hill, and a second hills of 230 feet, bringing riders to 82 mph. Pitt Fall, a 250 foot tall freefall ride, drops riders to a free falling speed of 65 mph. and plenty other rides reside at this park to get your heart racing. The food here is amazing, with the Potato Patch having some of the best fries nationwide, along with funnel cakes, corn dogs, and affordable drinks. If you are ever in Pittsburgh, you have to visit Kennywood. You will want to come back year after year. If you are from Pittsburgh, you already know what I'm talking about. Kennywood 4ever!!!
Pros: Great rides, mouth watering food, nice, family atmosphere, convinient parking areas.
Cons: Can't really think of any...
