terrible for artists. This place has terrible food (tastes like it came out of a box and heated up and dried out, and when the owner is out of town, none of the entrees are available), it charges the artist for everything, even though they don't pay a dime to the performer. It's overpriced, and the staff is generally unfriendly. The place has NO built in crowd. One good thing is the sound system is okay.
Eclectic crowds pick at pad Thai against a backdrop of experimental jazz and spoken word; only in Cambridge..
In Short
Upon first glance this cafe, with its generic beer signs and U-shaped, well-stocked bar, looks innocuous enough. But once the fruity tropical cocktails and heaping pu-pu platters arrive, and the nightly entertainment (from stand-up comedy to upbeat ska to edgy spoken word) kicks in, patrons realize they're in for one distinctive dining experience. Friendly bartenders keep the mood jovial by whipping up lethal scorpion bowls for groups of appreciative students and locals.
Go to the All Asia for the shows.
Go there for the shows. They have all kinds of music, several shows a night, including some no-cover shows. Also stand up comedy on the 1st and 2nd Tuesdays of the month. They have a decent selection of beer and drinks at usual bar prices.
Service on the food is surprisingly fast, but I've only had appetizers, and they were mediocre. They sometimes have free candy, etc., in bowls, but I don't know if this is the norm.
only one drink please. Well, I asked the waiter for a recommendation, and he suggested the Calamari app. and the pad Thai. The bartender also served up his signature frozen mocha slide. Next time I'll bring a friend, the portions are very generous! Didn't need a second drink, the first one was quite powerful.
we like this place. We like this place! Where else can your band play for a couple hours and your friends come hang out and dance, eat, drink, schmooze? The dance floor is great, and so is the ambience. Easy to find. Check it out!
