...this place just wants to make money.....
I had a pretty bad experience at this place in regard of their customer friendliness. I paid 170 US$ for 1 Intro session and 5 Reformer classes. In the week I had joined (Monday) I woke up sick and canceled for the Thursday class on Thursday morning and wrote an email to the studio at 10:21 am that I am sick and can not come to my first class. I then attended every 4 Thursday classes of the following weeks and wanted to schedule my last class of my 5 reformer class package I had purchased. I then was told the following: "You canceled the morning of class on
October 27, which is less than 12 hours, so you were charged for that
session. So you are due for a new package or plan starting with this
Thursday. The policy is outlined on the paperwork you signed when you came for your first session."
So I feel like I got ripped off, clearly I should have read the paperwork more properly, but I am also attending Pilates classes at Atelier Pilates and Upwardspiral studio (both in the area) and I feel even at a gym such as Healthworks I can cancel in the rare case that I am sick in the morning and would not get charged for it and especially not in the first week when joining where one is not aware of that! So I guess I emailed 3 hours too late and now had to pay $37.50 for each class (mostly 4 people), at a price where I could have enjoyed a class at Atelier Pilates for 1 class: $15.00 (only 3 students in the class!) and at Upward spiral studio for $25.00 (4 students in the class).
My impression is that they follow now a very rigid business model to get their rent of their new fancy bamboo floored studio paid.
That being said: I enjoyed the class with Eileen very much, but definitely not worth the steep price differences and bad customer service. I will not recommend the studio to any of my colleagues or friends. There are way nicer and cheaper studios around with great, amazing instructors!
Fitlab Pilates.
This place is located in proximity to homeless shelters and troubled youth gangs, on a second floor with no elevator in an old, worn off building. The pilates equipment is new but the air-conditioner is not working.
The owner Sarah is the only teacher. She offers limited variety of classes, in small groups but no personal attention. Not a pleasant environment to practice for the price: better try wellbridge or healthworks for professional pilates programs.
Pilates & Easy joy all in one.
My experience with Pilates had always been hit or miss till I started going to FitLab. Sarah, the owner and instructor makes the classes fun and challenging. Before you even start taking a class Sarah takes you thru an assessment to see where you need to work. Now each time you are in class you and Sarah can customize your workout.
Classes range from beginner mat classes, to reformer and even ballet sculpt. Classes are small and I really enjoying seeing the same people every week.
If you are new to Pilates or are an old hat, you should give Fitlab a try.
