Reported to the Dept of Children & Family Services!.
Terrible! Before signing your child up to Fairy Tale (or any daycare) please ask if they've ever been reported to the Department of Children & Family Services. Our son has PDD which is a mild autism
diagnosis and was treated with 1 on 1 services at Fairy Tale 3x a wk from a specialist at the May Institute, a renowned autism institute in MA. His specialist met with during the day and noticed countless times when the primary was out, which was every Friday, that the children where left unattended, screamed at by sub teachers, the specialist from the May Institute (a non-employee of the daycare) was even asked to watch the kids in the room while the sub teachers "stepped out".
Each time i was told about an incident i would speak with the director, primary teacher (who was great), and the sub teacher to air our frustrations. Finally the May Institute was forced to report them to DCF because nothing had changed. The saddest part of all was when I met with the head admin to tell her they had been reported she literally said nothing. I received a very angry call from the owner/director 2 wks later saying the claims in the report, which she admits to never seeing, were false (crazy, I know). Instead of taking steps to address the allegations they decided to defend their teachers and claim the May Institute was making everything up. Unfortunately for them my son also receives services 1x a wk from Boston Metro Early Intervention who concurred with the May Institutes accusations. Anyway we pulled our son from Fairy Tale and received a letter a wk later saying they conducted their own "investigation" and the allegations in the report, which they admit to NEVER SEEING were "unfounded". The banned the May Institute from providing services to children with an autism diagnosis.
100% True. 100% Unreal…
Great Daycare.
We sent our son to Fairy Tale Childrens Center since he was 5 months old and are very happy with the service provided. Teachers absolutely love the kids, are very caring and teach them a lot. Our son
seems to have learned great social skills from there and we never felt bad leaving him at the daycare to go to work. We can tell he is always very happy when we enter the front door, which leaves us with a good feeling for the rest of the day. The teachers (especially Varvara) always takes some time at the end of the day to let us know how the day went, which we appreciate a lot! Also as a first time mom I personally received some helpful tips from them, for example when we started introducng solids etc.
The only thing that could potentially be improved is the communication around teachers leaving. We initially had a few teacher changes, but were never informed why someone left.
All in all a really great daycare for a reasonable price. I highly recommend it!…
The Best Children's Center. My child has been going to Fairy Tale Children's Center for 3 years since she was 8 months old. She grows up healthily with average of 90-95th percentile according to the pediatrician and doctor. Healthy breakfast and lunch are provided on schedules. Teachers are very kind and educated. The curriculum are so creative and appropriate. She learns so much everyday. She is talking like a 5 years old while she is only 3. Given plenty of opportunity to learn and communicate, her social skill is amazing. FTC closes at 6pm while other day cares close early. I have no problem at all leaving her at FTC while I work full-time.…
He's so happy he doesn't want to leave!. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Fairy Tale Children's Center. My son has been with them since he was 4 months old (now 16 months). We chose Fairy Tale because it is so conveniently located near the Mass Pike but we love it because the teachers love him as if he were their own. As any mom will tell you, guilt has a way of creeping into our thoughts all the time. When I pick my son up and he doesn't want to leave because he is having so much fun it makes all those feelings disappear. Watching him grow and learn is so exciting, made even more so because the teachers are just as excited at his progress and development as I am. I highly recommend them.…
Safe, Educational, Fun, and Caring Day Care!.
We had great experiences at Fairy Tale! The short version is that we are confident that our children are safe and are getting a good educational experience there. They have knowledgeable and caring
teachers. Our son's social and language skills have come a long way since starting at Fairy Tale. The hours are great (7:30-6pm) and the prices are reasonable compared to other commercial day care options and even comparable to many family day care prices (at least for the ones in Cambridge).
For the long version, please read on. Our son, now 2.5 years old, has been going there since he was 13 months. He spent a couple of months in the infant room and graduated to the toddler room. Our son is a very active and intense boy who requires limits and does well in an environment that encourages learning; otherwise, he will get bored easily and start to test limits and misbehave. Fairy Tale does a great job with providing the intellectual stimulation and constant attention that our son requires. They have circle time where they read stories and sing songs. They also have weekly music class where they bring in a musician. They do art projects such as painting, play dough, and coloring. They talk about different topics such as colors, clothes, and holidays. They also have free play time with many toys and books. My son will often sit in the corner reading by himself during free time! We also like the variety in the lunch menu as well and my son will actually eat. They also provide breakfast and good snacks. Our son also will usually take naps there since they are good about setting routines.
Since I got a new job in the city and did not want to drive in and pay for expensive parking, we briefly took our son out for 2 months to try out a family day care near Central Square (over near Toscanini's). It was just one provider with five kids. Without going into much detail, the provider was not able to give the constant attention and intellectual stimulation that my son needed. We did not know what to do because we basically had to urgently find new day care. Fairy Tale accommodated us so that they had space for my son in the Toddler-preschool room. They think of our son like their family and instead of going back on the bottom of the wait list, they generously took him back as soon as possible.
Our 7 month old daughter also started a month ago and the infant room teachers have been great! We know our little girl is safe with them. They are introducing her to art projects such as painting and making stamps of her footprints using paint on paper (something we have not yet done ourselves!). She is at that stage where she likes to be held and be close to her providers. They play with her and give her the loving attention she needs.
We also love the open feel of the Allston facilities. There is an enclosed outdoor space with various play scapes, ride on toys, and a sand box. When it's raining/snowing or too cold, they have an open gym/play room for the kids to run around and get exercise. They also have an elevator and a parking lot.
The downsides are minor. The elevator can be slow (take the stairs if you do not need the elevator) and the parking lot is dark since it gets dark earlier in the winter. We will suggest that they try requesting that lights be installed so that we can more easily see in the parking lot. There were also several times where all the parking spaces were filled from other parents picking up kids or from other people attending events at the other businesses. But we just either wait for a space to open up or park to the side and run up to get the kids.
To summarize, we are very satisfied and happy that we are back at Fairy Tale and our children are happy. I may have to drive into the city and pay extra for parking but our kids' safety and happiness are worth it! Fairy Tale Children's Center is highly recommended!…
