Citysearch Editorial Review. The hunt for a perfectly crisp white shirt sent Sheri Falk to Paris and back, and her idea of Basiques was born. Don’t let the fancy French name fool you: Basiques is all about the essential staples necessary for every wardrobe. The Back Bay flagship store is as comprehensive and petite as a walk-in closet, yet with shelves stacked with fabrics for apparel or housewares; a large island in the center provides space for customers to lay out individual pieces to mix and match. Sheri Falk is a believer in the French style of layering clothes, so nothing is ever overly thick or heavy: Only the finest cottons and silks are used for the shirts (with styles primarily in white and in a few patterns); merino wool and cashmere sweaters are light enough to wear throughout the year; and wool and tweed skirts are lightly knit to maximize their seasonal versatility.
