Ledge is a neighborhood restaurant and bar situated on the former site of Donovan’s Village Tavern, which was a dusty Irish-styled local favorite for decades. There’s no doubt that the switch in 2009 gave Dorchester’s quaint Lower Mills section a nightlife boost, with a trendy bar menu that hits all the bases, from a pulled free-range chicken grilled flatbread pizza to braised short rib arancini. Without being flashy or overstating the case, Ledge offers the opportunity to kick up those heels with a cocktail or two. The decor is discreetly neutral, with an exposed stone inlay, and the menu is…
Editor's Tips
- When to Go:
- The bar gets noisy at weekends, so if a quieter dinner is required, go early or ask for a table away from the bar area.
- Where to Sit:
- When the weather allows, head for the large patio or the outdoor bar.
- The Extras:
- A kids' menu includes grilled cheese sandwiches and chicken fingers, yet with the luxury of handcut fries.

Worst dining experience ever!
by Queenlala at Citysearch
My friend and decided to try Ledge because it was a convenient meeting place between the two of us! The two of us are huge food lovers and eat out frequently. I have absolutely nothing good to say about my experience unfortunately. The service was horrendous, my friend and I sat at the bar which only had 2 other patrons, the bartenders were more interested in swapping stories about their weekends and christmas plans than waiting on us. They never asked us if we wanted another drink and never checked back on the food. I ordered the french onion soup which was cold and lacked any taste, unfortunately I was too hungry to return it. For dinner, neither my friend or I could decide what we wanted, however the bartenders offered no suggestions each time she came over to take the order. I ended up ordering the steak tips and asked for them to be cooked rare and when they finally arrived, 30 minutes later, they were so well done I could not eat them. I had to flagged down the bartender to let her know. My friend ordered the wedge salad and the tuna sashimi and was not please with either of them. This was by far the worst dining experience I have had in an extremely long time and would NEVER recommend this restaurant to anyone.
- Cons: service, food, and ambiance

what a hiddne gem!! Stumbled upon the Ledge when driving through Dorchester...they have one the best outdoor seating areas (complete with a bar) that I have seen in Boston. Food was excellent as well. I got a pizza and very much enjoyed it. Service was excellent and they have a great beers on tap as well. I would highly recommend the Ledge, you won't be dissapointed.
- Pros: atmosphere, food, service
- Cons: nothing
