In Italian, Pazzo means crazy man. With chef Bill Bradley heading the culinary team at this elegant restaurant, Boston foodies--male and female--go crazy for classic Italian dishes like gooey-centered arancine telephono, rich wild boar Bolognese over penne and tiramisu. Bradley, who does Italian cuisine with easy flair, has come up with a couple of Pazzo signatures, too: “The Parms,” a fun title (parm-loving Sopranos, anyone?) that encompasses veal, chicken and eggplant; and a carpaccio menu that includes a soy-braised portobello with smoky eggplant and grana padano. The best restaurant on Newbury

by cjw123 at Citysearch

Towering above the dusty plain of culinary mediocrity that is Newbury Street, Pazzo shines as a glorious city upon a hill. If John Winthrop were hip (and alive) he would no doubt celebrate the opportunity to savor fine Italian cuisine in the lively, unpretentious setting that is Pazzo. My wife and I live a block away and have long searched for a local place to call our own. Tonight, our search ends.

  • Pros: Excellent food, attentive waitstaff, little pretension

The Details on Pazzo

What to Drink:

The wine list is blissfully low-priced ($26-$45) and beautifully simple, with only a handful of whites and reds. Keeping a low inventory translates to better prices for customers.

Look Good:

Pazzo has an updated version of Bradley’s Rustic Kitchen salt cod box, but this time the wooden box is a Venetian-style fritto misto, laden with tempura battered calamari, rock shrimp, bacala, green bean, and, the primo finish, some crispy lemon.

Where to Sit:

In summer, the prime street-side patio buzzes; in winter, a table by the real fireplace and pretty French windows at the back sizzles.

Fun Fact:

Before concocting Pazzo’s simple but scintillating menu, executive chef Bill Bradley opened Bricco and Carmen in Boston’s North End, and the Rustic Kitchen restaurants. Bradley honed his skills in Napa Valley and the Piedmont region of Italy.

Save Money:

Munch on $5 appetizers at the bar from 5pm to close, daily
