Tips for 88 Wharf Riverfront Grill

December 22, 2012

Bad choice. This place looks fancy, but has no style in cooking and service. Bartender (we were at the bar) never smiled to us and spent a possible minimum time with us. Out of all diner (2 appetizers, 2 entrees, one dessert), only the appetizer Duck fried rice, and chocolate cake were good. I cannot even categorize what style of cooking they are serving. All vegetables, french fry, hummus were tasteless.

online reservations! :O. We made online reservations for an outdoor table, I called to confirm. Totally surprised when we arrived that you CANNOT reserve an outdoor table via the net? Why didn't someone call me to tell me and why was I told I was all set when I had called ? odd.

The food was just ok. My husband was not impressed. I thought the caprese salad was great! The pizza was ok.

Our waitress was sweet but did not know ingredients in the pizza etc, also, my husband wanted jerk chicken that was on the menu & was told that it was not available only upon ordering.

They give you plenty to eat.

HORRIBLE !!!!!. Decision was made by the bridal party to have a Bridal Shower at 88 Wharf Riverfront Grill. Not due to the girl's fault, but this place is HORRIBLE !!!

This was a small party of 18 adult guests, nothing overwhelming or complicated. A simple buffet was served with salad, scrambled eggs, french toast, bacon, sausage and fresh fruit. The girls paid extra for a "cheese platter".

How can ANY restaurtant mess up a simple venue like that ??? Well;

~the eggs served were BURNT !! They were literally burnt BLACK on the bottom and therefore even if scooped from the top the burnt taste was overwhelming thoughtout no matter trying to scoop near the top to avoid the burnt eggs on the bottom.

Nobody was able to eat them.

~French toast is suppose to be bread dipped in egg and then pan cooked. I don't believe egg was even used !! It was like eating steamed bread seasoned with cinnamon....very dry no visible egg. Plain 'syrup' to spoon on was sparse in a little cup on the side.

~The frest fruit was laid out on a table late not near the buffet therefore most guests had finished eating or weren't even aware when it was finally put out.

~The cheese platter was small and set at a side table. Most guests didn't even know it exsisted if not for word of mouth.

~Service was HORRBILE !! Waitress staff clueless ! I was only asked once if I wanted a drink. Other guests had to 'try to grab someone & ask' to get a beverage or cup of coffee

. We sat forever with dirty plates in front of us !!! Sitting with dirty plates in front of us well after everyone was done and ready for coffee and desserts became embarrassing. A waitress had finally passed by and I asked her to 'please' clear the dirty dishes and was litereally given a dirty look !! Perhaps because the food was so horrible and so much was left on everyone's plate they thought we hadn't finished eating !?! - No, a LOT of time has passed, ~guests were up walking around and coffee was being asked for (again..had to hunt for a waitress) and the girls had brought out desserts. We were then told we had to wait for coffee to be made.

(seating for this party was right at the opening to the kitchen where staff was coming in and out. We were just outright ignored)

The girls had asked for a table to set bridal presents on and were told "no extra table" (even though this was on a Sunday and resturant had barely any other patrons) Riduculous !!!

Thankfully the girls brought in their own desserts...so they were a yummy success.

Again, the girl's of the bridal party did a wonderful job plannig this Bridal Shower. They personally took on total financial responsibility. Desserts; decorations; flowers; party favors; etc. were beautiful !! Everything would have been wonderful if not for the food & service ! But then...what DID these poor girls end up paying you for ?!

Shame on you 88 Wharf Riverfront Grill

$1 Oysters!. Sat at the bar and ate oysters and drank champagne before dinner. $1 oysters from duxbury were delicious! Dinner was great! Service was great! Can't wait to go back for more oysters when I can eat them on the patio in the summer!

Best Brunch I have ever had. I was attending a memorial mass in Milton and went with friends. It was beautiful. Already in a somewhat spiritual mood from the service the view of the neponset river and the boats of the local yacht club made it positively transcendant. The last of the fall foliage were clinging to the trees and the sunshine sparkled off the water. Our waiter was as sweet as she could be, the food was delicious. We had dessert and lingered over coffee for over 2 hours! Absolutely wonderful!

Year-round waterfront dining and bistro fare south of Boston. In this genteel ‘burb, the main appeal of 88 Wharf's location is its proximity to water, perched as it is on Milton Landing overlooking the Neponset River. It’s a picturesque spot year-round and an obvious draw in summer. The smart-casual restaurant and bar is part of an upmarket condo development minutes from the Milton T stop, feeding a need for both a local's drop-in and a Bostonian's destination for dinner. Wharf 88’s decor blends classic New England with airy European bistro touches, which also can be said for the menu--which includes hangar steak frites, Scottish salmon and lobster pot pie.

Destination Milton!. Perfect blend of neighborhood pub and upscale restaurant. It seems like the type of place you would go on a special occasion with the waterfront view but the prices are such that you could go a couple times a week (oysters for a $1!). The food was simple yet exceptionally prepared. The service was very friendly. It felt like you were a regular from the moment we got there. Loved it! Loved it! Loved it!

Hidden Gem. I had no idea such a beautiful little restaurant had come to Milton. Tucked away on the banks of the Neponset River overlooking the Milton Yacht Club. Food was great, service was wonderful. I live in the city but will certainly make the trip again.
