Enjoy the Secondhand Smoke!.
My boyfriend and I have lived at Village Green for almost a year now and cannot wait until our lease is up to get out of this place!
If you enjoy smoking in your apartment, this is the place for you! If you don't care to inhale secondhand smoke and would rather your material goods not smell of smoke, LOOK ELSEWHERE!
Being around people outside smoking doesn't affect me; however, when smoke is constantly seeping into the apartment, I have a problem. Not only was this making me physically ill, it is just plain disgusting when you leave reeking of smoke like you have a pack-a-day habit. We reported the problem to management soon after moving in. Instead of trying to fix the problem, they blamed us for not knowing that it was a smoking facility. We had no problem with the fact that residents are allowed to smoke IN their own apartments. We had a problem with the fact that smoke was seeping in around the doors and some residents choose to smoke in the halls and walk through the building.
After weeks of the management company blaming us and doing nothing to rectify the situation, maintenance FINALLY came to check out the problem. Surprise Surprise... they noticed a problem. They ended up replacing some piping, drywall and the vanity and repainting the bathroom in odor killing paint.
Although that patchwork helped slightly, smoke was still seeping in around the doors. We continued to call management to no avail. After about 3 months of trying to get management to do something and fighting to try to break our lease, we gave up and did some at home fixes (which work to an extent), including foam around the doors and not opening the windows anymore because the smoke gets pulled through the apartment and sits in the bedroom and bathroom with no where to escape (lack of windows- 2 in the entire apartment).
Besides the smoking, the apartments are very dark and the amenities leave little to be desired. The dogs in our building bark into the wee hours of the night, and owners don't clean up after their pets, even after talking to neighbors and management about this problem.
Overall, the location is decent (if you like living in the suburbs with not much around), but for the price, I'd recommend going with Willow Trace Apartments next door. They are running incredible specials on their apartments (cheaper than what we pay at Village Green), and you get better amenities, newer apartments and a washer/dryer in the apartment. If we weren't relocating for work, we would just move next door!
