Dinner at Bernie's. is to die for. Great food, great service and I personally like the lively and comfy atmosphere. Refreshing chinese food...not your run to the mill fried chinese fare.

Suburban families flock to the Chestnut Hill Mall for some of Metro West's best Chinese cuisine.. The Scene
With its harried servers and circular tables full of noisy families, Bernard's plain dining room often resembles a wedding reception run amok, especially on Sunday nights. Overflow crowds spill into the mall while waiting for tables, and the reception area is frequently jammed with folks waiting for their to-go orders. Weekday afternoons see a much calmer environment, as only a handful of tables are filled, usually by lunching ladies on their shopping break.

The Food
By using only fresh ingredients--no canned mushrooms here--and aromatic spices, the kitchen churns out colorful, clean-tasting Chinese fare. The quality of the meats and fish used is impressive (sweet sesame chicken features huge chunks of all-white meat, shrimps are large and plump). Besides delicious interpretations of contemporary favorites like fiery General Tso's chicken, the menu features a bevy of heart-friendly items, including steamed fish entrees (try the salmon with savory black bean sauce).

tight seating and overpriced. I heard great things about Bernard's and was highly dissapointed when dining there. Their "Inventive" dishes lacked orginality and taste, food is overpriced and seating is quite enclosed. It was very noisy and we couldn't get away from our neighboring table's conversation. Service was better than most Chinese restaurants.

lunch. I have dined at Bernard's for lunch twice in the past week.

Today was exceptional, in that I tried the chicken soup with rice.

Sounds simple, but it was absolutely one of the most delicious

dishes I have had in a long, long time!!!

good chinese place. I went to place once for lunch and was surprised by the quality of food I got. Being located in the mall, can roam around filene's if I finish my lunch early, before going back to work. Tried sauteed chicken with mushrooms, hot & sour soup, I liked them because I was expecting just like normal but they turned out to be good. Will go to this place few times as long as I work in Needham.

unmalled and refined. The best experience in the Chestnut Hill mall! Far and away exceptional food in a fun and lively space.....alittle bit of a wait but worth it. We have had dinner parties for 12 - 14 take out a few times and have always had raves about the food. Go!

GOOD GOURMET CHINESE GOOD. good gourmet chinese, excellent produce. I like the black bean shrimp dish. The owner and managers are very friendly. I generally have had all good meals at this restaurant and go here often. The food is not greasy and they do not use msg and they use finer ingredients than most chinese restaurants. Also, it's in the mall which is fun becuase you can shop after din din yay!
