great food!!!!!. I usually go around Boston area but last Tuesday I ended up with my girlfriend at Charley's restaurant in Chestnut Hill. We had an amazing time we loved the cobb salad and the mushroom hamburger. Our waitress Raechelle was very nice and very pretty too.

The food and service are generally pretty good here.. I've been to Charlie's oh probably at least 50 to 60 times and the food and service have always been above average. They always ask you to cut into your steak or hamburger to make sure it is to your liking before you eat it. They always check to make sure you're enjoying your dinner and I have personally witnessed them bending over backward to make sure something was made right to a patron who was being completely unreasonable. If you leave there unhappy it's your own fault.

Popular restaurant serves up affordable, accessible eats in the Mall at Chestnut Hill.. The Scene
Popular with shoppers in need of a break, Charley's dining room sports a saloon motif and can be deafening when packed. The sidewalk patio offers a chance to escape the mall for some fresh air, while the bar is a welcoming spot for solo diners and serves up a surprisingly thorough wine list. Weekend brunch service attracts strong crowds, as all items (average cost: $10) include a mimosa or screwdriver.

The Food
With its pizzas, salads, fish dishes and sandwiches, the extensive menu attempts to cover all the proverbial bases. Starters like creamy spinach and artichoke dip or Caesar salad topped with spicy blackened chicken can easily be shared. Those looking for something more filling than a juicy burger can choose from pasta dishes and choice steaks. Desserts include authentic New York cheesecake and rich Charles River pie.

In the tank. Five years ago, Charley's was pretty decent. Now it's really gone in the tank it seems. My last two trips to this Chesnut location have been very poor. A few months ago, my steak was overdone and virtually inedible and service was slow. The second time, my chicken pot pie was way off and service was entirely incompetent. I'm pretty sure it was our server's first time working in that type of role. Note that the Boston location seems a little more reliable.

Horrible Food. I went to Charley's with a friend who had been there before and liked it. I ordered the french dip, and thought it was odd that it came with grilled onions or cheese, and then after a few bites realized that the "onions" were really LARGE chunks of warm beef fat, literally, half the "meat" was fat. So I left the sandwich and ate the fries, which were decent. If I hadn't been there on my friend's recommendation, I would have definitely sent it back. It was by far the worst thing I'd ever been served in a restaurant. So if you do have to eat there, do NOT order the french dip.

American Fries. The fries are unbelievable! They are what real American (not french) fries should taste like.
