Bad Food, Bad Decor, Bad Attitude on Owner. I stopped in there last night in order to use the rest room. The owner not only refused but was shouting his refusal loudly. I wouldn't even bother to try the food after that experience. I can see why that dump was empty when I was there.

Located just down the street from the West Newton Cinema, Shing Yee has long been a weekend favorite of area families. The lengthy menu of familiar Chinese-American fare stretches over several pages and includes several vegetarian options. Bargain lunch specials (served Mon-Sat before 3pm) rarely top $6 and are a favorite of worker bees whose offices are within walking distance.

a gem in West Newton. Until I discovered Shing Yee, I had trouble finding a really good Chinese restaurant in the Boston area. This place is great!! Every time I've gone there, the staff was friendly and the food arrived promptly. This restaurant is very clean. It doesn't have a very imaginative decor, but who cares? The food is terrific! I recommend the vegetable lo mein and kung pow chicken. And the chicken fingers are delicious and not greasy, so they don't sit like a brick in your stomach after you've eaten them.
