Rude waitstaff. For at least the 3rd time and last time, I have been amazed by the rudeness of the waitstaff. I don't care how good the ice cream is, I won't go back.
Great Spot! Great Memories. I went as a kid and now my kids are hooked! Always a fun time with great food and awesome ice cream for dessert!
Best Family Restaurant Around!. What more could you ask for? this is a true throw back to the classic. I have never been disappointed with an experience at cabot's. it's a great place to bring the kids for a special treat!
Open year-round, this local institution has satisfied Newtonites' ice cream cravings for generations..
In Short
Ice cream spot first, restaurant second: Cabot's is an area destination for a kid-friendly, old-fashioned ice cream parlor feel. Ice cream concoctions run the gamut from five-scoop sundaes to thick frappes. Unusual parfaits are also available. Food offerings include standard comfort faves like grilled cheese sandwiches, hot dogs and an array of chopped salads. Family-owned for more than three decades, it's a Newton staple where practically every Little League team ends its season.
Rude service. Cabot's has good food, but very bad service. My party has waited 20 minutes to be served after being seated, been treated poorly by rude waitresses who don't seem to want to be there, and then has had to pay a very impersonal and unfriendly cashier. I had always thought that Cabot's was a nice family-friendly breakfast and icecream restaurant, but it seems that only certain types of people or families are served well. This may not happen to everyone, but I wouldn't go there again unless I wanted to be treated in a discriminatory manner.
Great ice cream shop!. Step back in time to the ice cream shop where Jan and Marsha worked on that unforgettable episode of the Brady Bunch. Cabot's is a wonderful blast from the past. Last night, we were craving ice cream and checked out what Phantom Gourmet had to say... Cabot's was listed as a hidden gem, and while the crowds would indicate otherwise, it is indeed a gem. While the service was fine - nothing special - the high school students and grandmas running the show did lack the grumpiness and attitude so prevalent at establishments within Boston proper. The ice cream and frozen yogurt menu overwhelmed us with its enormous selection of ice creams, hot toppings, cold toppings, and mix-ins. How is one to decide between the infinite combinations or even the delectable choices they've already figured out for you? Needless to say, our huge sundaes were phenomenal. Creamy, decadent ice cream, fabulous toppings. What more could you want? For an all around great time, fill your belly up at Cabot's. I can't wait to go back. It may not be as trendy or as supposedly unique as local chains like JP Licks or Emack & Bolio's but boy does this place make up for it in how wonderful it is all around.
Great Food, Awful Service. I have to admit the sundeas and food are amazing, and reasonably priced. Be prepared though- the service is almost horrific if you actually do sit down for a meal. The waitstaff is slow, and not entirely friendly. Best bets are to get icecream at the counter or for take out.
I love Cabot's!. I go there for the food on occassion, and their grilled cheese, mac & cheese, and other basic fare is decent, the ice cream is the real reason to go. Go there with an empty tummy or prepare to split a sundae. I recommend anything with hot fudge in it. Their hot fudge is DIVINE. Try the sundae on top of a Belgian waffle. Fantastic.
Memories.... I grew up near Cabot's and every time I drive by, while home visiting, I smile remembering how much fun we had there growing up. It still keeps that Old Fashioned "flavor" and stays true to it's large ice cream menu that had us scratching our heads trying to decide what to get. This is a great place to bring a family to remember your times there and to create new memories with the kids!
MMM Cabot's. I love their ice cream and better yet the hot fudge which is bittersweet and melts in your mouth. What a heavenly treat - just wish it were in town and not in Newton!!!
