Editorial Review for Johnny's Luncheonette – by Eric Grossman

The Scene
With its old-fashioned soda fountain and Formica tables, Johnny's offers area families a colorful, unique and affordable destination for lunch, dinner and all-day breakfast. Offerings like matzoh ball soup and turkey Reubens expand the menu beyond the usual diner fare. Kids indulge in pleasing finger foods (hand-cut sweet potato fries are a must). Weekend breakfast and brunch is a local institution, so expect a wait. Youthful servers are quick to refill water glasses and coffee cups.

The Food

Like all great diners, Johnny's serves up a breathtaking assortment of dishes, perfect for large families. Garden-fresh salads are large enough to share, as are hefty deli sandwiches of the sinful (buttery, grilled Monte Christo) and saintly (savory low-fat pastrami) varieties. Hungry diners gravitate to the roast turkey dinner, which includes enough potatoes, stuffing, gravy and bird to feed a small family. A frothy egg cream from the fountain provides a fitting dessert.

The best hamburgers with fries in town. I would go their more often if the service was slightly quicker though. It's worth going their once, for the food. It, of course is only good for a casual meal, or if one is very hungry, thanks to the portions.

Pros: The food.

Cons: The crowd, the service.

Fun place for the kids but the food was very average. Burgers came luke warm and very greasy. Soggy fries.
