Editorial Review for Bison County – by Eric Grossman
The Scene
One of MetroWest's most popular spots for barbecue, Bison County offers area families a casual, affordable dining destination. The eclectically decorated bar area, filled with bison heads and colorful license plates, is popular with locals for watching sports. There are two dining rooms--one contains an open grill that fills the restaurant with a sweet, smoky aroma, while the other is brighter and quieter.
The Food
Laid-back servers deliver standard barbecued meats (smoked brisket, pulled chicken) straight from the fire. Popular appetizers include rattlesnake eggs (red jalapenos stuffed with cream cheese), Louisiana catfish nuggets and turkey-chicken chili. Indecisive diners order combination items like the "wagon train," nearly a pound of flavorful bison, teak and turkey tips. Entrees come with a choice of sides--standouts include garlic mashed potatoes and grilled veggies. Those with a sweet tooth finish off with hearty desserts like a sinful brownie sundae with vanilla ice cream.

My boyfriend and I had a craving for BBQ the other night and decided to try this place out. We're glad we did. All you can eat cornbread with honey butter to start with was DELICIOUS. Large beer menu was definitely a plus. I liked that you could see your food being cooked on a large grill. Good ribs, good turkey tips, good service, great price. Right at the heart of Moody Street so afterwards you have access to shopping, movies, ice cream, the Charles River, etc. The only thing we were surprised about was the music - it didn't quite go with what I would have expected the ambience of a BBQ place would be (a mix of 80s and todays hits). Overall, a cool place to visit when in the mood for BBQ!
Pros: Price, Food, Service

No kids menu! So not very good for kids. Decided to order "cowboys and indians" BBQ which could come with two options for BBQ and various sides. Then the bad news. No brisket available. Ok, so picked 1/2 babyback ribs and pulled pork. It was a 1/3 side of ribs. The 5 ounces of pulled pork had a lot of fat and was clearly a mixture of meat not cooked the same amount of time. Some larger harder chunks and some pork shredded to the tiniest size. One third of the sides that should have come with the meal weren't available! The fries that did come with the meal tasted like they were fried in old oil. The serving sizes, the quality of the BBQ, things on the menu that just weren't available, are these guys going out of business or just planning to? I've had BBQ and do it myself, so I know what it can taste like and this wasn't it.
Pros: good beer
Cons: bad food
