Last of great indies. I can spend endless hours just hanging out in Brookline Booksmith. The selection is amazing. The used books section downstairs is a virtual treasure trove. I never have a problem finding last minute presents in the gift section. I love the books they carry. The staff is friendly. This place is wonderful. I have a hard time limiting the amount I buy sometimes! I just hope the Booksmith is around for years to come.

This independent Coolidge Corner bookseller caters to devoted bibliophiles with a personal touch.. In Short
It's hard to pick a favorite aspect of this popular bookstore. For some it's the renowned reading series that packs heavyweight authors into the subterranean reading room or the nearby Coolidge Corner Theatre; for others, it's the late (11pm) hours six days a week, or that the "staff recommends" section always offers an eclectic array at 15 percent off. But for the most part, it's the intimacy and customer service (so lacking in chain stores) that win over legions of fans.

Decent shop in the heart of brookline. Went to Brookline Booksmith because i heard that it was a great shop. While I did find it pretty good, I found it not to live up to its reputation. There are other amazing indepedent shops - like harvard bookshop in cambridge and New England Mobile Bookfair in Newton that far exceeded the booksmith in selection and value. Still though a very good shop for those who live locally. The used books downstairs were generally mediocre and priced too high as well. again, not to sound to negative, it is a good local bookshop.
