Editorial Review for Jake Ivory's – by Citysearch Staff

In Short
Among Lansdowne Street's numerous nightlife options, Jake Ivory's stands out for its boisterous dueling pianos entertainment. Local pianists pack crowds in on the weekends, when there's usually a cover charge. On a good night, when both pianists light it up and the crowd is ordering monster-sized beers the energy can be infectious. Tunes include a lot of audience requests, with favorites coming from the likes of Van Morrison, Jimmy Buffett and Billy Joel.

My wife and I were there on a Friday night and the place was packed. Great crowd with a good vibe...a bunch of bachelorette parties (all partying to the max)...good service, but the best part was the music. The dueling piano show was not only different from anything I've seen around the city, but a tremendous crowd pleaser. The whole club was roaring, with folks singing along to an amazing variety of tunes. I don't know how they pulled all of them off with just piano and drums, but it worked and everyone loved it. The entertainers really knew their stuff, you couldn't stump them, and they played tunes from every era and genre imaginable. There was a team of player/singers including a cute blond with a great voice and a ton of energy who really added to the show. She got the crowd involved from the beginning and they kept it going all night . I would definitely check this out as an alternative to the usual clubs that seem to be all attitude and no fun.

Pros: Great dueling piano show

"All squares go home!" If you want to hear virtually any song you desire, just send up your request, with a little inducement, and get up and dance to the music. If the crowd doesn't like it, your selection may be "outbid" by a more generous patron. Its raucous fun, and the whole drunken joint is jumpin' to the beat of Rock N' Roll piano. Its true. If you don't have a good time, it's your own damn fault! Jake isn't a cheap date, but he is worth it. See rising star, Jarret Izzo, and tell your grandchildren you saw him perform in an intimate club, before he was famous. "Man, what are you doing here?" Musicologist Craig McMahan is amazing. A splendid time is guaranteed for all.

Pros: Highly entertaining "Human Jukeboxes" know how to rock a crowd.

Cons: Can get crowded. Not for cheapskates.
