Neighborhood bar has surprisingly tasty bites. Having been to Crossroads both before and after it's major face lift, I can only commend this neighborhood joint for cleaning up its act. Sure, the Irish pub was a dive and a great place to end an already shitwrecked night, but the clean up doesn't take away from the casual atmosphere. Crossroads doesn't try to be a gourmet spot, and the bar food is straightforward and very tasty. The nachos are piled high and buffalo fingers are far crisper than you'd expect. The service may not be top notch, but the beer is cold, the place is spotless and you'll never leave hungry.
Pass it by, sadly this bar is no longer what it was...... Friends and I used to frequent this bar for many years, that is until it shamelessly turned itself into yet another typical garbage bar in a city. After they "renovated" the walls, the service, the character, the food - all went straight downhill. Our last visit to this bar was when we experienced it's true crappiness....flat beer, fools for servers and no personality to the bar at all. It was like going to a bad MIT frat house basement that happened to have a tap. Sigh. Another one goes down.
new owners, changed for the worse. nice place if the bartender likes you. if not, food and drink can be unpleasant, service can be slow, and errors in the bill can happen
Horrible service, particularly the night bartender kevin.
I have been to crossroads many times now, and often sit at the bar for a bite to eat. The food's ok, not great, but what you'd expect. The night bartender there-- Kevin-- is the rudest, most unfriendly bartender I know in this city. He always acts as if it's a problem for him to get you something. Just someone who shouldn't be behind a bar.
Avoid this place. I'll never go again.
Friendly service, great casual atmosphere, good food at reasonable prices. Not one of your typical chain bar/restaurants. 'Roads, as its called, is a true find. A real Boston Irish pub where you can relax, enjoy a drink, watch some sports or play darts. It's big with the locals and the college crowd. Cozy, friendly atmosphere with good but inexpensive food. They have special nights where the pizza or wings are free if you buy a pitcher of beer. The wait staff is attractive and friendly.
Editorial Review. Casual Irish bar sits on a quiet Back Bay street, shows sports on a big screen and offers dining deals.
Great Beef Stew. I really like this place. The service/attmosphere isn't fantastic - but the staff is friendly and the food is great. Best Pub food around. The Guniess Beef Stew is sooooo good. Plus they have great special during the week - like on Wed. - Buy one pitcher - get a Large cheese pizza!!!
pub crawler. This is the best place in Boston for PUB food. They also have the best selection in beer freindly wait staff and is the place that cheers should have been emulated...... Sam don't have anything on the Managment in this place...Give this place a 10 Plus rating..
Holy Smokey!. I live practically across the street from Crossroads and often have daydreams that it was better. The food is pretty good pub fare, but is consistently slow on the delivery. The biggest problem is the smoke. I go out several times a week to bars and clubs, so, for the most part, I have learned to accept it. But for some reason, poor ventilation, poor design, and/or chain smoking clientele the upstairs (the more 'bar' like environment) is consistently almost unbearably smokey. Also, contrary to what is written, this place seems to be more of a blue collar hang out (odd for a back bay location) than a college hang out. That, of course, is good or bad depending on your stance.
