Editorial Review for Redbones Barbecue – by Citysearch Editors
The Scene
You'd expect to find this restaurant in Austin, Texas, where the spicy tradition of Cajun Louisiana collides with the Southern home-cooking of Arkansas and the twangy strut of Texas--all of it seasoned with a healthy dose of Delta blues. It's the kind of place where the waitresses have tattoos, true Southern (unsweetened) cornbread comes with every meal, and you're likely to hear Hammie Nixon's corn-pone harp playing in the background. It's jumping almost every night--both in the smoke-free upstairs, popular with families, and the darker, bar-dominated downstairs.
The Food
Pork and beef ribs, brisket, chicken, and Texas-style (i.e., sauce on the side) pulled pork share the menu with well-executed sides like hush puppies and cat fingers. Save room for caramel custard. To drink, Redbones offers 24 microbrews on tap and more than a dozen big and little brands in bottles.

Redbones is very overrated. Although good bbq is hard to come by in New England, Redbones is not the place to find it. Save your money, buy some frozen ribs at Star Market, and cook them on the grill, they will probably taste better. I will say that their service, beer selection, corn bread and bbq sauce are all stupendous. But as far as the meet goes, its typically dry, bland, and cold. And don't even think about the Texas Chili....blahh.
Pros: Lively environment
Cons: Sub-par food

Great BBQ, very fun atmosphere. Long wait on the weekends but worth it. Nice selection of hard to find beers and changes every week. A+++++++++++++++++++++
Pros: Great food, fun atmosphere, fun servers, very inexpensive
Cons: Parking in Davis Sq is tough (T is very close to Red Bones), can be long wait on weekends
