Wonderful Food!. First time late 2008 -- everything we had on the table was of high quality (including the nice appetizer plate GRATIS). Though not on the menu, we were able to request a plate of baccala fritters (salt cod)...YUM! Helped that we went with someone who comes often enough to recommend EVERYTHING on the menu and explain it to me!

We can pretty much cook almost everything, just call the manager and we shall do it.

Large Portuguese restaurant serves up authentic fare amid bland surroundings.. In Short
As the largest of East Cambridge's numerous Portuguese restaurants, Sunset Café offers a suitably lengthy menu of Old World fare. Beef, pork, sausage, chicken and codfish are served in dozens of different ways, and linguiça pizza is available during the day. There's a soft pastel look about Sunset that unfortunately conjures up the generic shopping mall restaurant. Things liven up on weekends, when folk dancing is often featured.

If you like Portuguese food.... then this really is a nice place. Its a family favorite for us! We've been coming here for years. I love when they have the singers and guitar players come on the weekends! The food is great with traditional dishes and it always tastes homemade. I don't remember service ever being horrible as mentioned in other reviews. If you grew up in a Portuguese home, you've probably already been here and loved it.

No one is perfect and I'm sure some people have been serviced badly ( finding good help is harder than you think ) but we try and if there is ever an issue have the waitstaff call for myself, David and I resolve all issues. Thank you for your patronage and next time you visit us please ask for me I would like to show how much we appreciate you.

very disappointing. Went there Thurs night, we were the only ones (literally) in the restaurant, not a good sign. Waiter was pathetic, prices too high. Took 10 minutes to get drinks, we placed our order and didn't see the waiter again for 20 minutes, I had to actually stop him as he walked by to ask for another drink, he never checked on us at all. Took 50 minutes to get our food which was also pathetic since we were the only ones there. I got Filet mignon & shrimp. The steak was a good cut and cooked the way I asked for it but not much taste and the 2 shrimps were so dry and overcooked you couldn't even get them out of the shell. My husband got barbecued scrod which was fishy, burnt and had ALL the bones still in it. Service was unacceptable. We would never go back.

Waiting till the goats came home. Possibly the *worst* service I have ever had. Only about 5 tables were occupied in this huge place, so there was no excuse for the slowness. The waiter made it seem like it was a bother to acknowledge our presence. It took at least 15 minutes for us to get some cold bread, another 15 minutes to get ice water (which he didn't even refill promptly), and another 45 minutes to get the food.

Once the entrees had arrived, I was starving but the food was only so-so. I got roasted quail, which was about 2/3 bone. The potatoes and rice were not bad. My friend did have some goat that was pretty tender, but still not worth the wait. In the end, we gave them an $8 tip on a $130 order, which I thought was actually quite generous.

Best of intentions. Went there on Valentine's Day with a large party. The menu was large and it was difficult to flip back and forth -- But I thought they did a good job of explaining the dishes and the numbering system helped. The holiday was definitely a major problem, the place was packed. Our waitress was sweet, but it took over an hour to get menus, and to place an order. A language barrier caused a misunderstanding with someone allergic to wheat/bread, trying to get information about the dishes. It took another hour for the food to arrive, the place was cold, and our table was near a door/draft. Personally I didn't care for the folk music, but our food was excellent, but it was so late, I took most of it home. I'd go back to be fair, but on a non-holiday, non-weekend night.
