The Scene – For a quintessentially Cambridge drinking experience, belly up to the bar and observe the Republik's unique atmosphere--only here will you find Harvard students sharing stories, and dartboards, with postal carriers (off-duty, of course). Communist propaganda posters line the walls, lending credence to the bar's name. By day, this is one of Cambridge's most enjoyable spots for commiserating with friends, while weekend evenings find the bar jam-packed. Friendly bartenders pass the time by watching TV or chatting with regulars. – – The Draw – With more than…
great place

This is a great bar with a really interesting mix of people and no frills. It's small and relaxed and the bartenders are great. My friends and I go there pretty frequently, as we know we can rely on it for a good night. On the weeknights you can almost always get a place at the dart boards (bring your own darts if you're serious about it, because the bar's darts kind of suck), but on the weekends it gets to be a bit crowded. There's a giant workin' man's boot hanging above the bar, and lots of communist posters with thick-boned Russian and Chinese chicks hitting things with hammers and building tanks. It's definately eclectic and a good place to just hang out with friends and drink some beers.
- Pros: atmosphere, friendly staff, laid back crowd
- Cons: crowded on weekends
Bar for the laid back
by _bluedog at Citysearch
People's Republik is a great bar with no attitude. Everyone is friendly and it's pretty easy to strike up conversations. The decor is simple but intriguing with all the Soviet era posters. Plus, you've got to love a bar with a large bomb in it. Also, they serve until 2am so it's good for last call.
- Pros: No attitude, open late
- Cons: bomb might explode
