so said she..... the previous post couldnt be further from the truth. who goes to an irish pub/dance club to drink wine. and she is calling the phoenix pretentious? hmmm. fact is, DJ Vinny has been tearing up Friday and Saturday nights there for almost ten years and it's for a reason. arguably one of the longest standing "residencies" in the city it remains the hottest. if you dont like honest behavior stay home and watch TV otherwise s**k the marrow out of life and head to the Phoenix. an unpretentious, eclectic crowd of all sizes, shapes, colors, ages, and demographics. crowded? perhaps, but what great place isn't? it's because people WANT to be there!!!!
Rude staff. I went to this bar on a saturday night for 80's dancing with my mom. I wanted her to have a good time while visiting, but instead I was mortified by the behavior of the doorman and the owner of this bar. Both were extremely rude. Also, this is a tiny bar that is really too small for decent dancing, as we were elbow to elbow with drunk kids who seemed like they could not possibly be 21. Moreover, the wine selection was not great. I would not recommend this pretentious dive bar to anyone.
best time wharped 80's music playing bar ever. the bar had the best mix crowd ever with the occasional MILF and sketchy garlic smelling guys. the music kept people moving and the bar staff was friendly. great choice for a night out with your friends. it wasn't expensive or pretentious, it was just a good time!! so go and have fun!!
Comfortable Neighborhood Pub. I just moved into Central and am happy to have found the Phoenix. I went there on a Sunday night for their DJ that spins, and the bartender was very efficient, it didn't hurt that he had an Irish accent, which is always a nice touch. Came back with my girlfriend for their happy hour and chatted with a different bartender, who was also efficient, but did not have an Irish accent. Although she seemed busy, she made a point to chat with us and have a few good laughs, and make sure we were well taken care of. I guess it can get pretty wild on Saturday and Sunday mornings with Euro. soccer matches that they show live.
To the nay sayers. Well everybody that complained about the Phoenix/Staff probally could not handle the drink and so phoenix/staff... will not let you ruin others fun.. And to the late night person who complained about a bouncer not letting you in..well... when last call has been called..how the hell are you going to get a drink anyway....Take your drunk butt home and goto bed..you probally don't need another anyway...lets talk about the shooting...in where a fight started at HiFi pizza the fight escalated and moved in front but off to the side of the Phoenix. The shooting was from a bad D/D...also the shooting took place at 1:23am the Phoenix closes at 1:00am on mondays. so don't try to talk when you don't even know..!! This place is packed with hottie girls every friday and saturday..everybody has great attitudes..but if you come here with an attitude..you will be checked.!!!
Always avoid this place. the staff are horrible during sport matches - if you want to go there for a football match, find another place. you will be happier!
Worst Bar in Cambridge. The atmosphere is awful. Some one got shot there the other day. If you want to risk it, go there but just to warn you all, very dangerous and dirty.
Cambridge's premier soccer bar also sports a hoppin' dance scene..
In Short
With a pub-like, mahogany setting and Guinness flowing from the tap, a Celtic atmosphere permeates the Phoenix during the day. At night, the bar turns into a popular dance club where DJs spin everything from drum-and-bass to international house. A largely expatriate crowd piles in on the weekends to watch live English Premier League soccer matches. Peckish patrons enjoy straightforward pub grub (wings, skins, burgers) along with selections from the well-stocked bar.
best bar in cambridge or boston. this place is easily best bar in mass, great food ,different music every night. The best pick up place on saturday night.watch all soccer every week.
Bar is fun. Bouncers are not. I have always had a good time at Phoenix Landing until recently. The bouncer staff seems to have gone downhill. I recently showed up hoping to get a few drinks for last call and was told by the outside bouncer that I would need to pay the cover even though the bar was only open for another half hour. I told the bouncer I thought $4 for 30 minutes seemed a bit steep and he came back with (note the quotation marks), "Then get here earlier next time, jerk." I hope the attitude is specific to one bouncer, but for the time being I'll do my late night drinking up the street at the attitude-free People's Republik.
