great southern food. This is one of my favorite places in Cambridge. As a Southerner who has been up here many years, I really appreciate Southern cooking that goes beyond "soul food" - which I love as well.

Best bets: super tasty, crispy fried green tomatoes, really great creamy grits, duck with pecan rice and orange sauce, and filet mignon with pecan goat cheese topping. Where other places are selling Osso Bucco for thirty dollars, Magnolias has great steaks for around twenty. A GREAT deal.

Beer and wine list, fine, I'm liking that Abita Amber...

The waiters are pleasant and the service is good - it's a small place and fills up fast on weekends. Parking is tricky though I think they have a parking lot nearby.

BTW, I have talked to the owner, John, a lot when I'm there and have always found him really nice.

OK food- Owner is arrogant and rude.. Food is OK. Owner (John) is a complete A-HOLE !!! One of the rudest people i have come across. I love good food, but not at the price of supporting this j-off!! I am in a line of work where i talk to 20 small biz owners a day and sample alot of food. FYI.

Homesick Southerners and adventurous diners head deep into Cambridge for an authentic taste of Dixie.. The Scene
Cambridge's top Southern restaurant sits unassumingly on a busy street filled with Brazilian and Portuguese eateries and shops. From its cozy, New Orleans-themed dining room (Mardi Gras masks, crawfish posters) to a notably authentic menu (jambalaya and black-eyed peas), everything about the place shouts "Southern charm." Friendly waiters shuttle bottles of Southern-brewed beers (try the full-flavored Abita Amber Ale) from the tiny, curved bar.

The Food
Tangy fried green tomatoes, rich cheese grits and tender, "glorified" barbecue chicken are just a few of the down-home dishes that feature prominently on Magnolia's menu of comforting favorites. Crisp, sweet potato strings topped with crumbled Maytag blue cheese are a don't-miss appetizer. Slow-roasted, semi-boned duck entree arrives in raisin-pecan rice and a pungent orange-chipotle sauce. Save room for a slice of homemade pie (sticky-sweet pecan or tart Key lime).

Should offer Statins instead of mints after dinner. Don't be fooled by my heading. We really enjoyed the food at Magnolias. The majority of the dishes are fried, hence my intro. The sweet potato strings were a great way to start. The popcorn shrimp ACTUALLY contained shrimp (for those of you who frequent fast foods) and were quite tasty. The fried avocado was good initially then became a bit rich; share it with your friends. Atmosphere was comfortable, not quite Bourbon street, but hospitable, nonetheless.

Good southern cuisine. Loved the fried avocado (appetizer). 1 good all round choice for vegetarians (a veggie platter that is made up of a little of everything vegetarian on the menu).

They also have thier own parking now...call in advance for directions.

Outstanding. Excellent Southern cuisine and casual dining atmosphere. Fried green tomatoes and fried oysters were great appetizers. We didn't like the boudin stuffed red peppers as much - texture is probably not for everyone. Loved the catfish and grilled shrimp/scallop entrees. The accompanying vegetables were great, especially the spicy collard greens. Great beers and good, reasonable wine list. Very reasonable for the size of the portions and the quality. Great service as well.

Southern delight. This was a great overall experience in Southern/Louisiana style quisine. Food was excellent - especially the fried green tomatoes and the crab based apetizer. The main cousres, Jambalya and duck were both fantastic! Don't miss out on this one!!!!

Tasty Southern. Creamy grits...yummy catfish. Great flavor! Small but fun. If you have more than 4, call ahead. The menu has great twists on traditional southern fair.

MMMm good.. If you grew up on cheese grits and catfish, this is the place for you. The decor is not fancy, yet the food is the closest thing to real southern cookin'!
