This place is awesome!!..Hats off to shalimar!!! – I use to go to the DESI DHABA before entering this retaurant but now i wont even turn around to it. me and my gf love shalimar and have planned to eat here every weekends. services is very good waiters are very trained too. food is awesome specially chicken tikka masala. i love it. you should go for it now!!
The Best Indian Restaurant in Cambridge...You must try it! – I just moved to Central Square from Brookline and I love ethnic foods. I have been to every Indian restaurant on Mass Ave and they are by far the best! I first started going to Shalimar on weekends for their buffet and it must be very popular because they are usually crowded. They have a fantastic inexpenive buffet with many food selections. Now I get these guys to deliver dinner to me in work when I work late, They will serve any menu item I want and they have cooked custom dishes for me because i love it spicy.
They are very friendly and accomodating... Their chicken Tandoori is aewsome.
Service does matter to me, not just the cost!
Best Buffet in the area, 9 DIFFERENT choices, Great Service! Delivers always on time – The Best Indian Restaurant in Cambridge! I went with a group of close friends(13 people) and they all agreed that the food was absolutely delicious!!! I especially love their Chicken Tikka Masala, late night delivery is also very key:). Great Service!!!
Stay away - not recommended – We went there for the Sunday Brunch on Dec 2nd. We ate the soup, teryaki chicken, pikoras, curried fish, hot spicy vegetables, nan bread, finishing with fresh oranges. That Sunday night we did not feel well and in the early hours of the morning, we both suffered the worst stomach upset that you can imagine. We had runny poo, threw up and fever, as well as stomach aching and headaches.
We should have known - the carpet is dirty, a metal panel in the doorway is damaged and twisted and the restrooms are not clean. It is as if the owners don't even care.
We would not eat there again even if it was free and they paid us also.
Fly Found in the Tikka Masala – I used to love this restaurant. Sadly I will not be able to return. I ordered chicken tikka masala today (my favorite dish) and I found a fly cooked into the sauce. Luckily I decided to look at what the bizarre black lump in my food was instead of assuming it was spices. It raises huge questions as to their cleanliness.
In their defense they sent over a fresh and insect free Tikka Masala quickly. They offered me nothing for free besides the replacement though they were nice and friendly enough about the whole situation.
Pretty average Indian Buffet – My boyfriend and I stopped in here on a Sunday for the buffet. We are crazy about Indian food and have tried several places around town. The food here was good but not amazing and the selection was just adequate. What more can you expect for $6.95 though? The service was very friendly but not overly attentive. Pretty good cheap eats, but don't go for something special in the Indian food department.
Excellent food and service. Good beer list! – I went with a large group and found that the atmosphere was accomodating and comfortable, the food fabulous, and the beer list (surprisingly) good, with Indian and other domestic and imported choices. The samosas, saag paneer, and tikki masala are particularly good. My jacket smelled like the food for a day or two, but it was so good, I didn't mind.
Great food cooked to order, great service, great price – I've been to more than ten Indian restaurants in the Boston area and this one is the best. I've been to Shalimar three times now and the food is always good and the customer service great.
The chef is very accommodating to spice level. Last time I went there my girl friend didn't drink much of the cocktail because it was so strong. Without us asking, the waiter removed the drink from our bill.
The place looks a little plain from the outside, but they have a flat screen set up that plays Indian music videos. If your not into the videos, they do have seats by the window or in back.
I highly recommend this restaurant to those looking for a relaxing evening and don't want to break the bank. The non-vegetarian and vegetarian platers are a great sample of Indian cuisine.
HORRIBLE! really obnoxious – I really dont know where to start, the waiters/waitresses were pushy in having us order (as soon as we were seated) even though there was noone there! Its not a very friendly place, infact quite hostile. Their food lacks flavor, and the main reason we stopped at shalimar of India was because they had gulaab jamun, which tasted like sugared oil, i dont see how anyone could eat that..it was horrible.
On top of that, its not cheap and quite expensive. The only reason i tipped was because they acted like it was after closing, and we were inconveniencing them, when infact they didnt close for another hour or two.
I would've ran in and grabbed the tip off the table if i could.
