Editorial Review for East Coast Grill – by Citysearch Staff
The Scene
Sky-blue walls and playful fixtures contribute to the charming environment filled with an upbeat clientele. Many patrons opt to forgo a table in one of the dining areas for a couple of stools at the casual bar, the better to enjoy awesome mango puree margaritas and other quasi-tropical concoctions. Friendly service matches the ambience; laid-back without being indifferent.
The Food
Chris Schlesinger's inventive approach to seafood and barbecue has won him national acclaim, and it only takes one bite of his white pepper-crusted tuna with spicy bok choy salad to understand why. Barbecue fans should opt for a heaping plate of North Carolina-style shredded pork, girded by a couple of selections from the lengthy list of sides (don't miss the house-smoked sausages or the marvelous banana-guava ketchup that comes with an order of fried plantains). For dessert, stick to fruity options like flan with guava sauce.

Insider Tips
When to GoExpect a wait on weekends; reservations are only taken for parties of five or more, and only from Sunday to Thursday.
ParkingParking costs $5 in the lot that's directly across the street at the Cambridge Nissan shop.
The ExtrasSuburbanites don't have to trek to Cambridge for Schlesinger's barbecue; in Waltham, there's Jake and Earl's Dixie Roadhouse.

We went to East Coast Grill for a birthday and were not disappointed. The food was delicious, our server was prompt and helpful, and it was the only restaurant where I felt obliged to order dessert because it was bound to be incredible based on our dinner experiance. Parking was fine- we were able to get a metered spot right next to the restaurant. We were seated immediately but a note of warning- we were a party of two but the wait for larger tables spilled into the bar area. Due to the cost of the meals, East Coast Grill will remain for special occasions only, but is #1 in my book.

I have never written a review for citysearch but felt compelled to after the most outstanding meal of my entire 3 years in Boston at East Coast Grill (1st time there as well). I had the catch of the day (which apparently was just caught by the owner himself) with greens and eggplant that were all prepared in a way that just blew me out of the way. I also was astounded by the portions-usually good food like this leaves you hungry when you leave-I could barely finish my plate. I have eaten at all of the big seafood establishments in Boston and while the fish might be decent at other place (not even close to approaching this meal), you can forget the sides tasting as inventive and fresh as they did here.
