Why don't I come here more often?. Located in Inman Square, this laid back spot offers some of the finest grilled seafood and BBQ in the area. While the food is almost no-frills, the slightly above average cost translates into impeccably prepared simple food. Another sign of quality, Chris Schlesinger, the chef/owner, is almost always there.

Last time I went was for Bob Marley's birthday celebration. The regular menu was supplemented with a few Jamaican specialties like salt cod fritters, and a "ganja-smoked"-steak. The steak was, seriously, one of the best steaks I've had in Boston. The homemade hot sauce (real inner beauty) is outta control tasty, and will set your head on fire (try the wings). The best part is that everything on the plate is delicious. Leave no slaw untouched!

Foodie Fun! Hell nights!. East Coast Grill, more than anything, is fun. And not cheesy fun, but awesome foodie fun. From the BBQ-shack meets funky diner meets upscale bar atmosphere to the pint-sized giant margaritas to the $13 "kitchen appreciation special" of 6 PBR tallboys destined for a cheering group of chefs, East Coast Grill delivers.

I've been here for both regular meals and last night for the infamous Hell Night, and in either case it's been really fun stuff. Hell night sees the restuarant all decked out with caution tape, the waitstaff clad in leather and bandanas, and the open kitchen filled with chefs wearing surgical masks. And it's not like you get the sense these people are grudgingly decking themselves out with "flair," as you might expect, but that everyone on staff there is really just out to have (and to show you) a good time with some great grub.

The food isn't superlative, but it's pretty damn good - I think the thing that stands out the most for me is the raw bar -- fresh, tasty oysters and clams, and great shrimp. If you go, check out the raw bar platter which is about the perfect size for a two-person app. Mmm..

Everything on my plate is delicious. This place is great i am always satisfied. They also have the best oysters around. It is crowded with yuppies, but I guess that is what happens when you serve such tasty food.

Great vibe, unbelievable food. The food is consistently superlative, tasty without being too fancy, bold use of spice, always slightly on the edge.

What sends East Coast Grill over the top is the staff and the feeling of personal warmth in the restaurant.

Bleh....not my kind of foods. ok..lets start off with an apology if I happen to offend any poor souls who think they've been eating good foods all their lives. I'm a spoiled brat when it comes to eating. Maybe it's b/c of my culture or b/c i'm a food fanatic or b/c i'm just a plain picky eater...w/e.

Let's be on the bright side of thing for 2 seconds. I do admit the atmosphere and the service there are superb. But when I thought about my $80 spent for two people, I honestly careless if the atmosphere is good or the service is superb. I only care for the foods! The sole reason why I'm going out to eat.

Truth is...the only thing i came close to enjoying is this fried plaintain that came with the mahi mahi fish plate. Which is kinda sad for me since I can go down the street from my house and get fried plaintain at a hispanic restaurant.

Ok! let's see what else I got...a Vietnamese style fish and shrimp cake that taste just like the shrimp cake I ate at the chinese buffet earlier in the day. After that we got the "very spicy" ribs (i forgot all the name) and that was a disappointment. It tasted like a big giant strip of bacon. And "very spicy"? I don't think so..but then again i can eat habanero pepper for dessert. So that wasn't fair to try and match my expectation. Alrighty! the third dish is this 1/2 lb shrimp dish and that had got to be the saltiest thing I've tasted since i was at hampton beach tasting the salty sea water over the sumer. The forth dish is that mahi mahi fish plate.

So in conclusion... I will not personally go there again. If i want something similar i'd just go to apple bees and save a ton of money. I mean i don't mind spending the money (i am a certified high roller =) LOL), but to waste it on bad foods is my pet peeve. I hope you enjoy reading my review b/c i spoke from the bottom of my heart.

Specializes in seafood AND barbecue ? and does both very well.. This Inman Square institution accomplishes the impossible. It specializes in seafood AND barbecue ? and does both very well. With its sky-blue walls, ?live? volcano mural and animal drink ornaments, this laid-back restaurant does not take itself too seriously. But owner Chris Schlesinger?s dazzling food is another matter entirely. A fine raw bar offers clams; oysters; crab claws; Old Bay seasoned peel-and-eat shrimp; and spicy shrimp cocktail. For seafood lovers, mouthwatering selections include the grilled jerk-rubbed salmon with banana-guava; grilled coriander-crusted swordfish; and white pepper-crusted tuna with spicy bok choy salad. If you have a taste for finger-licking barbecue, try the sliced Texas beef BBQ, the Missouri spareribs or the melt-in-your-mouth heap of shredded North Carolina pork BBQ. The place is also famous for its three-times-a-year ?Hell Nights,? where dishes are flavored with the ultimate hot sauce, Inner Beauty. The night features the nine alarm "Infamous Pasta From HELL,? which requires diners to sign a release form before ordering! For gourmet seafood and/or a mean barbecue in a relaxed environment, there is no better place than the East Coast Grill.

Great Bloody Mary Bar. I went for brunch, orginally drawn by my pursuit of a good bloody mary in this town. The "make your own" approach was great, and I had one of the best bloody mary's I've had in boston. As far as the meal went, the food was novel, but average. The cornbread was good, but not very warm, the rib was well seasoned (great sauce) but tough, and so was the grilled avocado. The place was packed, but the wait staff was friendly and accommodating. The burrito that was on the special's menu was sold out - perhaps next time I'll get there earlier and give one of the popular dishes a shot.

Still Fun and good food, but value has sagged.. 3 dishes I tried were tasty but quite overpriced.

Bluefish fish 'n chips featured a 2" x 2" piece of fish on a mound of hot but very soggy french fries. Samon was good (a bit thin) as was the Calamari. Ribs were tough, not much meat.

We ordered the "Big Bowl of Seafood" and for $28, it was hardly well named. Te BIG bown, comprised 2 scalops, 2 shrimp and a couple modest sized pieces of fish. I honestly asked if we received the appetizer portion. sangria was a pitcher of Ice with watered down redwine and a few chunks of fruit as far as I could tell. we didn't even finish it, we ordered glasses of wain. Apon leaving, I was asked if everything was OK, and I said, 'will, since you asked, the 'big bowl of seafood wasn't particularly big. the hostes said 'Oh' in a concerned tone and got the manager. I repreated my observation to him and he just sort of shrugged and said 'ok' and walked off. (message read: there are other restaurants, don't come back here: OK, got it)

Decor still fun but a little tired (they might want to dust off the glass sculptures some time
