The oldest house in Cambridge exemplifies the styles of the 19th century..
In Short
Originally one of a neighborhood of summer homes with then-unimpeded views of the Charles River, the oldest house in Cambridge was built in 1685 by Dr. Richard Hooper. He died not too long after that, and his widow was forced to run it as an innkeeper, although some say she ran it as a tavern of ill repute. When she passed away, the house remained vacant for a long period of time until Hooper's son rescued it from squatters and termite infestation.
