Editorial Review for Harvard Book Store – by Citysearch Editors

In Short
The service at this local bookselling landmark is excellent, the atmosphere inviting and the stock wide-ranging and full of unexpected and obscure treasures. While many of the major chains keep things simple and order their stock from only the largest publishers, the Harvard Book Store casts its net a little wider. Nonfiction is the real strength here with displays that call attention to titles you might otherwise miss.

User Reviews for Harvard Book Store

5 Star Rating: Highly Recommended

This is my favorite bookstore in the Boston area. Stocks hard-to-find scholarly books. There's a great selection of remainders, and occasionally some real finds in the used book section. The staff are helpful and will order anything if it's not in stock, and the frequent buyers' program and weekly emails about readings and select books in the store is always a pleasant read. Highly recommended.

Pros: great selection, independently owned

Cons: none to speak of

harvard bookshop is simply one of the best shops around. With a large selection of well selected books and in a clean, well organized space, the shop makes browsing a pleasure. They specialize in current releases in all categories -- especially scholarly subjects such as philosophy, history, area studies, as well as literature, etc. In the bottom level, they have remainders (very good titles) and used books (which are pretty decent) -- though not nearly as good as Raven Used Books a few blocks away on John F. Kennedy Street. Actually, the two together, make going to Harvard Square for book buying the perfect location (not to mention the other 6 or so general and speciality shops in the square).

Pros: great new releases, clean and organized
