What People Are Saying About Algiers Coffee House

Part cafe, part restaurant, Algiers feels like a European postcard reincarnate. Dark wooden tables may be set too close for comfort for some, but the slightly chaotic atmosphere and leisurely service invite those in need of strong caffeine into a sense of time and place that is conducive to deep conversation, long study hours and catching up with friends. In addition to specialty coffees and exotic teas by the pot, which regulars venerate, Algiers serves a cornucopia of Middle Eastern sandwich fare, Italian sodas, and an expanded selection of beer and wine.

Editor's Tips

What to Drink:
The signature Arabic Coffee by the Pot--sludgy, sweet, black and strong as a bull--is one of the most authentic Turkish coffee offerings on this side of the Atlantic.
Know Before You Go:
Service speed here is the opposite of Starbucks, but as the servers take their time, so should you—preferably with enjoyable company or fascinating reading material.
Where to Sit:
The outdoor rooftop patio is prime real estate for people-watching and conversation. When itÂ’s too cold or rainy, opt for the quieter second floor seating.

Nice cozy place - Ok Couscous - Delicious "Ghribia"

by chebout at Citysearch

It's a pleasant place with a so so couscous (for "conaisseur"). Service was fast and courteous.

I was expecting a lamb chunk with the couscous I got grilled pieces of lamb not bas at all.

Overall we had a high expectation... I didn't ask if the meat was hallal?

Bonne continuation.

Terrible place to eat

by justanotherfoodie at Citysearch

Every meat dish we ordered was overcooked and burned - tasted like charcoal and was like eating leather strips. The couscous was bland and the veggies equally tasteless. At $15 an entree you expect better. Definitely not recommended as a place for lunch or dinner.

  • Pros: Good atmosphere, great coffee
  • Cons: Really bad food, very slow service
