Editorial Review for Charlie's Kitchen – by Sheila Kim

The Scene
While Charlie's has more of a diner setting on the ground floor, it's got a dive-like bar on the upper level. Sit yourself down at the second floor's curvaceous bar or one of several tables, or sneak your small group of friends into one of the high-backed booths for cozier and somewhat private conversation. Guests here are regulars--a mix of college students, tattooed women, blue-collar workers and a slew of mid-20-to-30-something plaid-shirt types.

The Food
Charlie's has a wealth of ales from domestic to imported; try a thick and creamy Murphy's Irish Stout. Don't forget about the food--every once in a while, you can feast on scrumptious lobster dishes from a special Lobsterfest menu for less than $10. For a more enlightened drinking/dining experience, pop some coins into the bar's jukebox and listen to everything from the Beatles to New Order.

The food here is GREAT and the prices are good too. Try the steak tips, they are EXCELLENT. They have a pretty good variety so everyone could find something. The only problem was the service, it was pretty slow and very hard to get refills.

Pros: FOOD, PRICE

Cons: SERVICE

Good beer and a very very good music selection are the main draws for us to Charlie's Kitchen. The waitstaff is charmingly unenthusiastic, but I guess that's just part of the experience. The food is nothing to write home about...typical bar food...just beware that if you order a grilled cheese and other people order burgers, there's a good chance that your sandwich will be fairly chilly when it gets to the table. My only real objection is that last time we were there, they were playing a discovery channel TV show at the bar that was pretty much just animals mauling and eating each other. The guy friends I was with thought it was entertaining, but watching entrails being strewn about didn't help my appetite at all.
