Best Tea Shop in the Boston Area. Great variety, great atmosphere (though sometimes hard to get a seat), and great tea. Staff range from amazing to not so great, but typically there's at least one knowledgable person working to help you. Don't bother with the pastries, though. The biscotti and teacakes are pretty good, and I like the savory scones, but everything else is average and stale if you're not there very early. Try the Royal Coconut Pouchong, White Blueberry, or Rote Grutz for something a little different.
Cambridge's premier tea cafe delivers an astounding number of varieties and a welcoming environment to a loyal clientele..
The Scene
Located just off of Harvard Square, this popular cafe provides a refreshing alternative to the numerous area coffeeshops. Consider yourself lucky if you're able to snag one of the few tables. The tea bar is staffed by experts familiar with most of the 100-plus varieties on offer. There are also countless tea accessories and stylish pots and cups available for purchase. The window seats offer a prime people-watching spot.
The Food
The main draw is the impressive tea selection, which includes many hard-to-find imported leaves. There's something for everyone: simple breakfast teas, rare green teas from Japan, unusual herbal varieties (papaya and pineapple), and so on. Pots of tea come with a cute egg timer that signals when the tea's fully brewed. Smoky chai drinks are a customer favorite. To go with their tea, patrons can enjoy freshly baked cookies, crumpets and scones.
