I don't have any children, my two goldens are my babies. I've tried a few local places with lackluster results. Nothing tragic, but just not great. Anyway, I now bring them to Toureen. They go on Riverwalks, and also get playtimes. They are always happy to go in, the grooming is always great, and I have seen the same person running the place for the past 4 years. (I know he has been running it longer than that, 50+yrs, but I have only been using them for 4 years.) I drop of bedding, toys, special food, and medications with my dogs and nothing has ever been incorrect. No lost toys, I always get clean bedding back, and the meds are administered properly. The biggest standout is that they know my dogs' names. As soon as we walk through the door, I let the leashes go and they run right in the back. A very safe place, with a caring staff.

My 2 dogs spent 1 night at toureen. They have stayed there approx 4 times and with no adverse event. On this occasion, when they were brought to us, one of our dogs was behaving normally (jumping) while the other was as follows: lethargic, tail between legs, zero contact, a much worsened limp & no affect - not her baseline. She is a happy puppy. We tried walking around to see if she was ok and we stopped due to the limp. My fiancé approached to lift her into the car and she began whimpering. I have NEVER heard my dog whimper. We placed her in the car & she kept panting and licking her lips as if she was thirsty - she drank profusely. Once in the car she would not look out the window and would not let me scratch her belly (also unusual). When I looked at her typically white paws I could see & smell that they were yellow due to urine. We arrived home I put her on the ground (again she whimpered) - however her tail began to wag a little. That said, since she has returned home she has not barked. She typically is known as a barky dog and it seems as if something happened in the kennel, as her behavior and affect are altered. Also, she has a sore spot on her back which seems to precipitate the whimpering. I went to the kennel and spoke with the owner this morning indicating that I just wanted to know what happened and if they could tell me that and give an apology. They denied that there was anything amiss with my dog and that she was "playful". They also denied any marked limp. They stonewalled and minimized what I was saying, while claiming to be concerned for my dog. He offered no further investigation and only stated that nothing happened and she was fine (though they did take responsibility for not cleaning the urine off of her). I truly feel that someone took abusive actions towards my dog while she was barking. Further troubling me was the defensiveness of the owner under the thin veil of concern. I have filed a report with the MSPCA.
Pros: none
Cons: question of abuse, poor customer service, not cleaning urine off my dog
