The bar's blonde wooden tables are as easy on the eyes as the well-poured pints of Guinness that everyone seems to be holding. With a soundtrack that's heavy on U2 and casual, friendly bartenders (good luck understanding their brogues), expect a laid-back scene at all hours of the day.

The bar's wonderfully chilled-out atmosphere only goes so far; a proper Irish bar needs a stellar beer selection, a well-stocked bar and a satisfying menu of familiar noshes, and Porter's succeeds on all fronts. Over a dozen varieties of beer are on tap, including some hard-to-find imports (Hoegaarden), while the menu features affordable interpretations of hearty shepherd's pie, piquant chicken curry with rice and deliciously greasy fish and chips.
