Editorial Review for Stockyard Restaurant – by Eric Grossman
The Scene
Since 1972, carnivorous couples and famished families have stampeded to this local favorite just off the Mass Pike. The comfy steakhouse atmosphere hasn't changed much since then, which is just fine with the restaurant's many regulars. A young, mostly female waitstaff does an effective job of explaining the different cuts of meat available.
The Food
In-house butchers carve hearty porterhouses and tender filet mignons from the finest aged Angus beef available, yielding steak of comparable quality to that served in the city's swankiest chophouses. But prices are much more affordable here, and as a bonus steaks come with a choice of potato, plus a vegetable and garden salad. Lobster lovers shouldn't miss the "famous" lobster pie, in which a generous portion of fresh meat is baked in a savory cream sauce. Few patrons find room for standard, delicious desserts like chocolate mousse and apple pie.

Insider Tips
When to GoPrime rib--one of the restaurant's main draws--is only served after 4pm.
Know Before You GoExpect a lengthy wait for a table on weekends (reservations are only taken for parties of six or more). Pass the time pleasurably in the restaurant's welcoming, mammoth bar.
ParkingThe restaurant's large free lot fills up quickly on weekends; show up early to avoid hunting for a spot on the street.

I really enjoy The Stockyard. The food is good, the prices are right and the portions are big. The atmosphere is very enjoyable as well. I have had a few experiences with the service being slow.

I love the Stockyard. I went with my girlfriend one night and while we were waiting to be seated, we had a few drinks at the bar and some appetizers. The bartender was a really cool, funny guy and the clam chowder was really good. When we were seated, I ordered the prime rib, my girlfriend got the filet mignon. Her filet was cooked perfectly and she really enjoyed it. My prime rib was fantastic; it was huge and cooked perfectly. It was so good that I was literally laughing as I ate it. I will definitely visit again soon; great meats.
Pros: Quality, service, parking, decor
Cons: None really
