The Scene
More a bar with a dance floor than a dance club with a bar, Great Scott is an affordable, unpretentious place for locals to hang out or press themselves up against sweaty strangers. The atmosphere is decidedly Spartan: a few TVs, some video games, a stage and a dance floor. But that doesn't deter hordes of students and young professionals from making this one of Allston's most popular spots for live music and dancing.
The Draw
It's a testament to Great Scott's popularity that on most nights a budget-minded, student-heavy crowd willingly forks over a cover charge. When local bands aren't pumping up the volume onstage, a DJ gets the joint jumping with contemporary hits and old-school favorites. The single bar features an above-average beer selection and enough mixed drinks to offer something for everyone.

Insider Tips
Know Before You GoPatrons coming to hear live music shouldn't expect much more than cover bands and energetic local collectives, playing at conversation-killing volumes.
The ExtrasThe bar doesn't serve any food; fill up beforehand or find yourself crossing the street for a bite from McDonald's.

Boston proper has long been missing a mid sized music venue. Forget the other side of the river. The sound is amazing and the caliber of bands is outstanding (I think its time for Citysearch to rethink their description). Long live Great Scott.

I like what this place has become. What used to be a big stinky frat house has been turned into a consistant supplier of locan and national acts. I has a pretty good layout for live music and still retains some spots for just standing around. The outside patio style area is kinda cool in that local rockstars can hang out and have a few pops in the natural sunlight. Amazing. the covers aren't too severe and the bevs are reasonable. Depending on the house DJ you can hear a pretty vast array of tunes from the PA. Great way to support your local wannabies and up-and-commings. get out and see some fresh band today.
Pros: almost a winner every night
Cons: tough to park
