What People Are Saying About Mizu

If Vidal Sassoon embodied '60s mod chic, Mizu is swanky '70s sci-fi, with an all-white palette, floor-to-ceiling windows and arches that flow through the length of the room. Without a top-notch team though, the eye-catching design would be pure hyperbole. This is where another progressive follow-through comes in: Elan Sassoon, son of the revolutionary cut-man Vidal, owns the salon. As its name suggests--Mizu is Japanese for water, invoking fluidity--the salon’s talented team doesn’t adhere to rigid fashion rules and instead shapes hair to suit the individual. Mizu is equal parts style and…

A friend gave me a gift card to Mizu...normally I stay away from the Boston salons, as I find them over priced. But I thought I would treat myself to a cut & color.
They called 15 minutes before my appointment to tell me she was running 10 minutes late. OK - nice of them to tell me. So I show up a little late...and wait and wait and wait. She was over 45 minutes late! I loved the cut & color, but I thought it was way overpriced.
The receptionist was snobby - I'm sorry, but anyone who's dropping $230 on a cut & color deserves a little courtesy. Also - even though they are in the Pru mall, she didn't tell me until after that they didn't validate for the mall. That would have been nice to know when I booked the appointment! And since they were so late, I was 10 minutes shy of going over the 5 hour discount limit at the Pru lot.
And I thought the salon was very sterile....you can be modern with some personality. I don't think I'll be going back.
best of boston

I moved to Boston seven years ago and over the past seven years I have been to almost every salon in the city - Gretta Cole, Mario Russo, James Joseph, Hot Gossip, Aveda - you name, I've tried it. They were all ok (some better than others,) but none of them were a good fit for me. My hair was always just OK, the stylist was always just OK... But I was really looking for someone who does an amazing job with my hair, someone who listens to what I want and someone I enjoy being around for an hour or so every couple of months. I found all that and much much more when i met Charles Maksou at Mizu. He did an amazing job on my highlights and my cut. I think it's the best cut/color i have ever had in my life. Plus, he was so pleasant to work with. He has a fantastic personality and i instantly trusted him 100%. I am happy to say that I have finally found my perfect stylist.
- Pros: Charles Maksou - amazing
- Cons: nothing
So Much Potential
by caradoll76 at Citysearch
So I followed my stylist Samantha to Mizu from James Joseph Salon, and I was so disappointed. It is a beautiful salon though a little sterile, and it's much calmer than JJS, It has that new salon smell and has a lot of sinks. The assistant pointed out that they have more sinks per stylist than other salons, so I doubt they will ever have a wait for a sink. I had to wait a few minutes once for a free sink when I used to go to JJS.
Mizu has all the makings of a great salon, but it lacks soul. No one seems happy to be there, and a lot of the stylists that were working there have alreadt left, INCLUDING SAMANTHA! I was waiting to write this review until she left because I couldn't say anything bad until she had moved on to Marc Harris Salon. I wish she went back to JJS. I liked it in spite of the crowds. Mizu fealt like a ghost town after JJS. I hope I like MHS!
- Pros: Interesting Architecture
- Cons: Negative Vibe, Overpriced
LIARS!!!

These people are such LIARS. I called this week to book an appointment with my favorite stylist Giovanni at Mizu and the gentleman I spoke to (Elan I believe was his name) informed me that Giovanni had moved to NY.
Giovanni called me two days later and informed me that he is now at salon Marc Harris in the Ritz downtown where I promptly booked my cut and color!!!
Business is about trust respect loyalty and honesty. The staff at Mizu in my opinion are lacking on all fronts.
- Cons: Expensive Parking! even with validation its $23, A $5 "service charge" mysteriously started showing up one month ago...
