Editorial Review for Scullers Jazz Club – by Citysearch Editors

The Scene
This L-shaped room in the Doubletree Guest Suites Hotel affords an easy view of the stage from most angles, and the club's body count is usually kept at a manageable level, which makes it the perfect place for a date or a quiet evening of music with your sweetie. The adjacent Grille and Lounge is a dark, pretty room that makes the most of a view of Storrow and Memorial Drives and the sunset-drenched Charles River. Service is excellent and attentive.

The Draw
Scullers is one of the more comfortable music spots in Boston, with a balanced mix of young lions and respected jazz elders. The menu hits a few high notes of its own: Grilled tenderloin comes on a mound of creamy mashed potatoes, and the grilled salmon is nearly undone by a nicely conceived but overly sweet accompaniment of fruit. Generous salads are best ordered with dressing on the side to forestall a thorough drenching.

Don't get me wrong, I had a really good time. Scullers has great artists that come though. The drink menu is fantastic. Prices are high, but that's to be expected. However, I'm from Chicago where they have REAL jazz clubs. Seeing the show in what was essentially a converted conference room in the hotel took a lot of the fun out of it for me. I didn't get any vibe from the place.

Pros: Small, Drink Menu, Great Artists

Cons: No Vibe

We enjoy good music and you don't get a better venue than Scullers to enjoy it in. The room is small and intimate. Don't be afriad to put on those dressy clothes gathering dust in the closet but casual is fine too. Either way, you're going to be comfortable . Make sure you take advantage of the dinner and show package. The food at the Boathouse Grille is delicious and you get front row seating at the show although it's impossible to be far from the performers. If you're from out of town stay at the hotel. It's a clean and well-run operation and keeps you off the streets after those late night concerts.

Pros: Intimate, Small, Close to Stage
